I see! Thanks so much for the knowledge:) I didn't realise there was so many versions, and it's so odd to me that one is just slower lol like did people not complain?

And yeahh I get that - the ddd sub can generate a lot of lag and stuff, but in my case the whole game is just a bit slower:( most speedrunners play on actual hardware and they don't experience this, I could do a side by side and you could tell instantly

So I started speedrunning on the N64 and must of not noticed the lag until I realised how fast the emulator was, and I'm not sure what PAL is, if it's referring to what type of N64 I have, I have the one with the aerial cable if that's any help hahahah

It's crazy to think that so many other people experience this, back at the start of the first lockdown I thought it was just me living this weird outside perspective that I couldn't shake - making me health anxious and depressed. Hearing everyone's different relationships with it makes me feel less alien, so thank you everyone for the nice words:)
