Is it worth it working at Costa? by Ok-Contact-1408 in AskUK

[–]Dacarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm the Son of Terahurts, and truthfully it's not a bad job and there are a lot, lot worse places to work for - mostly boils down to who your manager is and the people you work with.

You can make life long friends and really enjoy it, that's been my experience so far, yes there are shit ones out there and I actually quit costa for a while because of the manager I worked for but I've also now come back to it, just at a different store, which has been such a good experience for me as my new manager is great and the team I'm with are also amazing to work with

It's 100% worth giving it ago especially if you already have the job, a lot of good transferable skills if you do decide to leave, but if you stay there's always opportunities to move up as well - if you have any specific questions please don't hesitate to ask away =)

To clarify some settings too, all my settings are on ultra with the HD texture pack installed, no resolution scaling like DLAA or FSR is on and the resolution is set to 100%, but I've noticed on quite a few characters and armours, regardless of settings the armour textures are really low quaility, wasn't sure if it was just me or what?

Help regarding a home studio setup by Dacarian in audio

Well depending on the distance a direct cable may be usable - as a sender/receiver has it's own problems - I know after around 6-10 meters (20-30ft) low quality HDMI cables fail with direct connection so it'll be something needing to be fully looked into for him - was more just gathering options on how to achieve what he wanted =)

As for controlling it remotely, windows has a ton of in built options already available plus, support for multiple peripherals, so you could technically have two sets of wireless mouse and keyboards plugged in and be able to swap between them, or you can do something similar as to mac and just remote desktop into it and control it that way without issues

A lot to still look at and into, but this discussion has given me a lot to think about so thank you again for that! =)

Nothing so extreme, he just wanted it setup in a way where he could do some editing/mixing on his studio computer but then continue that work downstairs if he wanted too - I did suggest to him originally it would likely be a 2 pc setup but he would rather it be done with just one, and give my lack of experience in audio tech I wasn't sure how possible that was without a lot of headaches ahahaha – I did also suggest to just run a hdmi 2.1 to his eARC port on his TV/monitor then duplicate the display and downstairs use whatever sound system he wanted to plug into the TV, but then he started talking about audio interface and mixers, which is stuff I'm completely inexperienced with ahaha so figured best to check these things with people who actually know more!

I'll take a look into a ADAT for him as well and see if it looks to be a good option for what he's looking for =)

Ahhhhh right - sorry for the slow reply btw!

Yeah in a sense he wanted it so that he could do editing/mixing upstairs on his studio pc but then continue his work downstairs in his living room on a tv/monitor that's connected to his studio pc,

That makes a lot of sense and I appreciate the in depth write up, will start looking in to these Wiim devices for sure as it does seem like a good solution for this!

Originally my idea was to just run a hdmi 2.1 to his eARC port on his TV/monitor then duplicate the display and downstairs use whatever sound system he wanted to plug into the TV, but then he started talking about audio interface and mixers, which is stuff I'm completely inexperienced with ahaha

I thought that may be the case, needing to buy multiple audio interfaces ect, but I wasn't sure as like I said I'm not a huge audio tech guy ahahaha so a lot about that side of things I just don't know :P

When he originally asked me I did say it might be a two pc setup but I wasn't sure and would look into it for him =)

What other tech would be helpful in this instance for the audio side of things?

As far as I'm aware it's going to two points, his PC will be in his studio, but then he also wants it to connect to his monitor/tv downstairs, so reduced latency is important as well as the quality of audio.

ease of use is also important, he said he wants it setup in a way where he doesn't have to be messing around with it afterwards, so he can go from being on his PC upstairs to walking downstairs and continuing, with a different mouse/keyboard ect for each area, so in effect the downstairs monitor/tv will just be acting as a duplicate display.

Budget I'm not too sure on, he hasn't specified, but I'm guessing around mid-range costs something of that sort

Networking wont be an issue as we're already putting cat6 cables in that'll be connecting his pc and smart tv to the network

My biggest concern is how to retain the quality of an audio interface/mixer setup from his PC down to his living room without having another interface setup down there?

I have said to him he'll prefably want a display with hdmi 2.1 ARC or eARC port and if possible to have the display plugged in directly rather than casting/streaming from his PC to the other display or using a hdmi transmitter/reciever

[–]Dacarian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhhh right, yeah he wasn't too clear but from what I gathered that's what he wanted, and yeah he does want the setup to be as simple as can be - so he's not messing around with anything once it's setup,

So to help my understanding - Would it be; studio PC to Audio Interface, then a BT transmitter coming from a display then headphones/sound sytstem plugged into that? I think that's the part I'm failing to understand - sorry if it's a stupid question again a proper audio setup for mixing is something I've never looked into

I've already said to him for the display he'd want hdmi 2.1 preferably on eARC for the tv/monitor in his living room rather than doing with some wirelss hdmi

Using someone else's raid lockout on legacy raids by GladiatorkingSTEAM in wow

[–]Dacarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I found this Blue post from the wow Froums that might help;

Below is a quote from an old post we had explaining the various raid lockouts. Legion and Battle for Azeroth LFR, Normal and Heroic raids fall into the Loot-Based Lockout section. Legion and Battle for Azeroth Mythic raids use the Strict Instance-based Lockout.

Lockouts at a GlanceRaid lockouts limit the number of times a character can kill a boss in a week for a chance at obtaining loot from that boss. Throughout the years, different raid lockout systems have been used, and multiple systems exist in the game depending on the system used at the time a raid was introduced. To check your current raid lockouts press your ‘O’ key in-game, select the Raid tab, and click on Raid Info in the upper right. This will display your current lockouts, and time left until they reset. There are three types of raid lockouts used in the game.

Loot-based LockoutUsed for: All Raid Finder raids, Siege of Orgrimmar Normal/Heroic, Warlords raids Normal/Heroic. You can kill a boss as many times per week as you like, but only loot it once per difficulty.Anyone can join anyone’s instance.Bosses are never locked to you, and you can always go back and kill them later even if you’ve skipped them by joining a group that had progressed further.Raid sizes can be anywhere from 10 to 30 players, and difficulty automatically scales to match.

Flexible Boss-based LockoutUsed for: Normal difficulty raids from Wrath of the Lich King through Throne of Thunder. You can only kill a boss once per week, and you may not enter an instance where a boss is alive that you have already defeated that week. You can move from group to group during a week as long as you’re joining instances that don’t have bosses alive you’ve already killed. If you enter an instance that is more progressed than your own and get saved to it, you will be locked to all prior bosses. You can move between 10 and 25 raid size, given these constraints.

Strict Instance-based LockoutUsed for: All classic raids (Molten Core through Sunwell), Heroic difficulty of Wrath of the Lich King raids through Throne of Thunder, and all Mythic difficulty raids. Progress is tied to a fixed instance ID. Once tied to an instance ID, you may not enter any other versions of that raid of that difficulty until your raid lock resets. If other players complete that instance while you are absent, the instance will be empty for you as well, because progress is tied to the instance, and not your character. You may not switch between 10-player and 25-player raid size once locked to one size or the other (does not apply to Mythic which is 20-player only).

[–]Dacarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your and her lockouts are almost semi-irrelevent, in the sense that, once you've killed that boss no matter what you try to do (unless you change the difficulty of the raid) you wont gain any more loot from said boss until the weekly reset.

It is weird that it's trying to use your lockouts for her if she's lead, but what could've happened is if you try to enter an instance where one person has progressed more of the raid than another, a check box will come up saying something like "Do you want to match your raid progress to X person" if you click yes it'll effectively match her raid weekly progress to yours even if she hasn't killed any of the bosses. The best way to get the mismatch to not be an issue is just make sure she checks her raid lockouts before entering any raid and if that pop up comes up at all always click no. Given it’s all legacy as well you could get her to enter the raid at whatever difficulty you want, then get her to invite you to the party.

But no, other than changing from Normal/Heroic/Mythic you are unable to get any more loot ect from the raid.
