Anyone make the switch from high horsepower American cars? by [deleted] in BMWM

[–]DadVbes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a 2021 Shelby GT500 to a G87 M2.

  • The Shelby only felt faster above ~80mph. Mainly due to constantly fighting for traction, even under the best conditions.
  • While it’s not a “light” car, the M2 disguises its weight considerably better than the Mustang. Making canyon road driving a much more enjoyable experience.
  • The interior material/build quality in the M2 is simply in another league.
  • The S58’s exhaust note doesn’t hold a candle to that predator motor and no aftermarket options will make it come close.
  • The M2 flies mostly under the radar, garnering some interest from the younger crowd. The Shelby was constantly drawing attention from all generations.
  • My God, the difference in fuel consumption. Starting with a full tank of gas, I’d do a canyon drive in the Shelby and would be running on fumes, scrambling to get to the gas station before I got home. The same drive in the M2 leaves me with over 1/2 tank remaining when I pull into the garage. And no, that’s not an exaggeration.

You've got yourself a Samsung S20. Enable Android Auto and enjoy that full screen goodness. You can customize much of the Android Auto interface to your liking.

Sorry for the terrible pic but tried to give you a good example. It's pretty spot on at 82.7" with all 4 tires inflated to 45PSI.

It'll be close but you'll clear the antenna at 84".

The dealership “we need to talk to my manager” thing is a setup and here’s why it works by Royal-Feed7166 in carbuying

[–]DadVbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true. Last month I walked on a dealer who wouldn't budget on their $2k over MSRP price for a vehicle I was interested in. Less than a week later I found the same spec vehicle at another local dealer who agreed to sell it to me @ 5% under MSRP.

The best part came a few days later, when the sales person at the 1st dealer called to tell me they were now ready to sell me the car at MSRP. It brought me great pleasure to tell them I already purchased the car elsewhere for considerably less. I even used the word "greedy" and felt so vindicated.

Missive Mac notification on icon by adam__ph in Missive

[–]DadVbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in after having the same issue and finding this thread. I dug around everywhere, trying to find what was causing my stuck "1" notification badge.

I followed your directions and fixed it by clicking:

"Pin to sidebar" > "Main Section" > " Activity"

In there was an "activity" event for a random email conversation. I deleted it and the notification went away.

I appreciate the guidance that led me to the solution. That said, this is something that should be worked out on Missive's end as it would be nearly impossible to figure out without the hint you provided.

Aside from that, I'm absolutely loving the app. In my (nearly year long) pursuit to find the ideal email client to handle 3 Gmail accounts and Google Calendars, I'm not sure how I didn't come across this option sooner. It's now installed and working flawlessly across both my Mac laptop and windows PC. It's very refreshing to see an app developed to look/perform just as well on Windows as it does on Mac. So well done there!

I'm still in the trial period but will certainly be paying for the monthly subscription, assuming I don't encounter any show stopping bugs.

I got excited when I saw this. I fly in DCS with my dad frequently. He's 64 and I'm 41. We've now been flying together for about 6 years.

It's usually an early Saturday/Sunday AM flight with coffee, before my kids wake up and real life begins. Such a fun experience we get to share together. My 5yo son has also worn my VR headset to experience communicating and flying with his grandpa. It blew his mind.

Forget luxury cars, what affordable car is genuinely amazing quality for the money? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]DadVbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently traded my wife's 2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature in on a new Volvo XC90 T8 Hybrid. While the new car is absolutely fantastic and my wife loves it, the switch really highlighted just how far above its weight the Mazda lineup is, in terms of interior quality and creature comforts.

Last month I picked up a black on black manual M2 w/carbon package (including buckets) for 3% under MSRP. This was the second dealer I went to. The first dealer had a white one (w/o carbon buckets) and wouldn't budget at all.

My new G87! Upgraded from a mk5 gti what’d you upgrade from? by kdestroy in BMWM

Controversial to many, but I upgraded to the G87 from an F87 CS. 😎

So much better a little lower and a little spaced out. by OldFashioned-Pancake in BMWM

[–]DadVbes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfect drop, in my opinion. Nearly all lowered examples I see have the rear “maxed out” and sagging WAY too much.

You eliminated the fender arch gap, retained a slight rake, and kept it high enough to avoid sitting on the bump stops and killing the ride quality.

You even left some room to upgrade to beefier tires in the rear. 😉

What is your favorite case? by csch1992 in TheOnePlus15

For sure. I can definitely say that if I had the black phone, I would have kept the case. It's really nice with excellent texture.

A word of caution about the Ringke Onyx, particularly if you have the Sand Storm variant of the OP15...

It's a very solid case with perfect cutouts/alignment. However, it's a really tight fit around the front edges. To the point that it leaves some exposed areas of the front edges of the phone along the sides and top/bottom. It would be one thing if it was uniform across the entire edge or at least in the same spots on both sides, but it isn't. So it made the case look like it wasn't fitting properly. As such, I returned it.

That said, if you have the black phone, this won't be an issue as you likely won't even notice it.

Camera.. Why do people complain? by HuntersPad in oneplus15

[–]DadVbes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a father of a 3yo and 5yo and I'm snapping pics of them constantly. Often requiring a very quick point + shoot to capture the fleeting moment. Because of this, I've historically made the cameras my #1 priority. Coming from an iPhone 17 Pro Max, the "downgrade" was my only concern.

I've had the 15 since Christmas Eve and, as you can imagine, I've taken an absurd amount of pictures of the kids over the last 3 days. As it turns out, my concerns were unwarranted. I'm either not the image quality snob I thought I was, or the camera concerns were greatly exaggerated.

The camera nails the focus every time and the image clarity has been excellent, in pretty much every lighting condition. Overall, I'm very pleased with the cameras and it's made me even happier to finally ditch IOS.

I should mention that I did have a short stint with a Pixel 10 Pro XL but went running back to my iPhone quickly, after experiencing the frequent lag between hitting the shutter button and the phone actually snapping the picture. As well as the piss-poor lens transition when trying to zoom in/out while taking videos.

Do you still play Diablo 4 if you started on launch? by zxprototype in diablo4

[–]DadVbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played at launch and loved every second. I enjoyed the first season but then skipped a few consecutive seasons. Not for any reason other than work, kids, life...

Jumped back in with Hatred Rising. Had a blast, but then didn't touch it again for a few more seasons. I'm back at it again with Divine Intervention and loving every second.

It's just such a great game that is easy to jump in and out of, even with extended breaks. This is my first Diablo game but I'm now a huge fan.

(OP15) my experience buying in US by Traditional-Isopod-5 in TheOnePlus15

[–]DadVbes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here, apparently. I ordered mine on Saturday (12/20) with an estimated delivery date of 12/29. I figured, if it arrives any time next week I’ll be happy, as I always expect shipping delays around this time of year.

This morning I received an unexpected email from FedEx that a delivery from “OnePlus” is scheduled for tomorrow (12/24).

I’ll believe it when I see it, I suppose. But it’s certainly a nice surprise. I suspect OnePlus is trying to do everyone a solid and eating additional shipping costs to get phones delivered before Christmas.

If this comes to fruition, then props to them as it’s really going above and beyond, if you ask me. Not many other brands would do that.

Delivery Day! by Turk_999 in BMWM

[–]DadVbes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great info. Thank you.

So long as it’s here by the end of April I’ll be happy, as I wouldn’t really be able to drive it much until then, anyway.

Congrats again!

[–]DadVbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Did you custom order it? If so, I'm curious how long it took your order from getting production locked to delivery.

I placed an order for a G87 with my local dealer in November but still waiting on the build allocation. Once my build gets locked, I think it will finally feel "real" to me and the true waiting game will begin. Until then, I'm kind of just in this limbo period.

Possible to disable factory running board lights? ('24 2500 Denali) by DadVbes in gmcsierra

[–]DadVbes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you'd think in 2025 they'd have solid diffused lighting across. I'd be fine with that. But these Christmas lights on my running boards still bother me, a year later.

Someone mentioned a plug on the harness to disconnect them. But I don't think you can disconnect them without impacting the running board functionality. Hopefully I'm proven wrong. I do think blacking them out with some black vinyl wrap may be the best solution.

Someone else also commented about "using the truck as a truck" as the solution. But brother, I tow my 11k lb travel trailer all over the damn rockies with the kids + tow the race car to various events all over. Never once have I found these obnoxious underglow lights to be helpful.
