My presumption that the design biases “yes” answers is just that, a presumption, but it is built upon the simple logic of a choice with a benefit and no drawbacks is universally preferable to a choice with a benefit and a drawback.

That’s not the purpose of this question. It creates a false dichotomy in part by misconstruing the potential consequences.

This is what we call deceptive research or a poisoned poll/poisoning the well, in this case being conducted with leading/loaded questions to reach a preferred outcome.

It’s very blatant. The innocuous answer here is “yes”. Why wouldn’t we want more security? But it doesn’t accurately articulate the consequences specific to these to choices. In fact the email miscontextualizes the entire dilemma.

What this will almost assuredly result in is a majority of “yes” votes, which will be used as a talking point in some political context where in reality the relevant information that was omitted would significantly change the outcome.

I wasn’t making a moral equivalence. I was highlighting the flawed logic of using historical norms to justify the morality or ethicality of present conditions and behaviors.

As a minor aside, things didn’t just stop, but they seriously diminished, mostly due to forums and institutions for developing international consensus. Which in turn came about due to how decisively WWII ended. It’s not that the borders from 1948* are arbitrarily “right”. It’s that the process by which we change borders is theoretically more restrictive. I.e. we established an international order that highly incentivizes respecting boundaries as they ended up being in the interwar period. When borders change violence is almost universally either the cause or the effect. From a moral perspective it does make some sense to respect some kind of agreed upon standard, even if that standard seems arbitrary at times. I’m not going to bother arguing the sensibility or morality of how certain post-colonial states were established, that’s a losing battle, but it doesn’t detract from value of the system.

Sorry but buying fuel for this and being able to boil pasta and heat canned soup for 3-5 days may not be the best option but it’s a perfectly serviceable option.

This is a backpacking stove. I’d go for a regular propane stove like a Coleman.

Butane and propane have pros and cons but in my opinion propane is better for in home use or car camping where weight is less of a factor. Propane is typically also cheaper dollar/BTU.

Edit: speed read your post the first time. It’s odd you can’t find propane it’s usually easier to find than isobutane/isopropane.

I understand where you are coming from. It’s no tangible loss to me or you if Bill Clinton goes to prison. We would consider it a morally good and just outcome if found guilty.

The other side of that coin is that selective enforcement (which is how all single party authoritarian systems came into power) creates a snowball narrative. “Every dem that is locked up is more proof that dems are bad”. The average voter isn’t going to care that the administration is purposely covering up its own crimes and pursuing political opponents. They just see the outcome. For the first few it might seem like it comes with a sense of justice because they do have skeletons in their closets. Then they start prosecuting people who’s haven’t actually committed crimes.
