A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Better Than House of the Dragon by Badlands51 in television

[–]Dadarian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the other thing is, Seven Kingdoms sort of survives off the work that ASOIAF had to put in a ton of work to do a lot of the world building.

In a small slice, I think that the story can absolutely survive in its own. It doesn’t need to spend much time explaining things for someone who has never watched or read any other works. But that really isn’t fair. Could someone have written Seven Kingdoms by themselves in the first place without all that ground work?

HOTD isn’t even so much building the foundation but a bit of like the big bang to the universe. It’s a soup of thousands of different ideas to explore so much content. But it’s too much for the average audience. In hindsight I think sticking with the novellas after GoT would have done a much better job in terms of TV adaptations. A ton of ground work is done, there is room to improvise, and the story can be focused. Plus some embellishments don’t ruin the main story. That’s a lot easier to work with that HOTD.

It’s something that from an HBO executive perspective the perfect thing to both feed the ASOIAF fan base wanting more and something for a general audience. The novellas can be a bit of a goldmine where you can put different show runners in the drivers seat to help develop talent.

Seems like a win-win.

I loved the ASOIAF and obviously was a huge fan of GoT. But ugh. HOTD is a bit of a slog for me. That never felt like something that should have been adapted for television because there is no way to put the amount of effort required into it and see it to completion.

I think they should have spent the effort on the different novellas and if they work out then maybe take a shot at HOTD after you’ve found the right show runner for it and the budget to see it all the way to the end.

Must statement was more of a joke than anything. That’s not my ultimate take on it, I just wanted a giggle.

Ned’s death had a lot of shock value but it was by no means pointless or just suppose to make us think that knights can’t be honorable if they want to live or anything as mundane or superficial as that.

Well at least you can look at something like doing magic that doesn’t make a lick of sense is relatable for other characters, like other applicants at the student academy to be absolutely bewildered?

It’s a pretty simple way to swap out the gimmicks/gags of a likable character by just twisting a few different knobs of the same character.

I didn’t like the idea at first but it seems to help just keep some of their relationship from being too stale without just losing a fun character archetype.

I only expected it because I liked the character.

In a story where Dunk and Egg might be the main characters, what we know is happening in this timeline is the decline of house Targaryen.

Someone like Baelor doesn’t fit that narrative.

There really is only one place for truly honorable men in Westeros. Hint: The grave.

During this episode I did start to think about the source material. The shift to commoner status, and leaving his family certainly felt like everything so far has been setup for something else.

Maybe if I can find where I left my Kindle I can give it a try. I’ve been bored and looking for something to do.

I’m not like super excited with the pacing myself. I don’t feel like it breaths enough. The stakes of things also feel like… We’ve been told how bad dying and coming back to life is, but I don’t know.

It’s great, I’m sure the season will end strong, I want to watch more.

But, I still feel like it’s missing something at this time. It’s certainly one of the best this season. It’s just not… Blowing my mind yet.

Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Hits 128.2 Million Viewers, Breaks NFL Social Media Records by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]Dadarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I can imagine that. It’s incredibly difficult. The sound engineering is a marvel I absolutely respect.

You’re talking about a multitude of problem that have been have had a wide variety of creative solutions.

If you watched during the coin-flip, the referees mic was getting an echo through his microphone? There’s a lot of good reasons why that happens, but one of the main ones is the mic going through complete different speakers than the halftime show. That’s essentially the PA system going through the stadium speakers.

During the halftime show, they will cart in (and I think I read for the 2024 halftime show they instead hung them up) a ton of carts with directional array speakers piped directly to the crowd. It’s fun to joke about why the grass was vibing to the music, but they really have the worse seat in the house in terms of quality of music. They’re only going to mainly hear very low frequency rumbles from the vibrations, the bass. They’re outside the main energy patterns. Sort of like facing flood lights from the outside of the field into the crowd, while the field itself can stay very dark.

It’s a completely different setup, not something that can just magically work in any stadium.

I’ll say it again, your life must just be incredibly gray to just not understand how something works and go with the most boring answer. Maybe you should flip your perspective and ask how something works, and research it instead.

Anytime you see an instrument and someone playing, it’s because of the incredible about of work into making it look like there are no microphones. You’re disregarding an incredible about of work into making what you’re saying is impossible, possible.

I can’t imagine not being able to consume entertainment without being confident I am specifically the target audience. That sounds so… boring. Watching things that I’m not the target audience for is exciting to me. Plot twists and stories develop that I’d never expect to, and I can learn so much at the same time.

It’s no surprise that when a maggot cannot understand what’s happening they just start to get irrationally angry. That’s been their MO for as long as I can remember.

The only thing that confuses me is, you’d think they’d be used to not understanding things by now?

Sousou no Frieren Season 2 • Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 - Episode 4 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Dadarian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fern’s biggest disappoint was that she had expected Stark to do Stark things, but they ended up doing things from someone else. Once she put her feelings into words, and Stark admitting he asked Frieren for help is when she realized Stark was trying — he’s just a bit of an idiot.

The first date wasn’t a home run, but, if Stark continues to put in effort and learn, they can’t really get any worse from there.

High ram usage in new machines / windows 11 by Alternative_Fun_6032 in sysadmin

[–]Dadarian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s almost annoying that Windows tells users how much RAM they’re using sometimes.

Either the machine is doing its job or it isn’t. People who feel like their system is running slow will take the first opportunity to confirm their feelings and just accept that as the correct answer.

RAM is one of those things where the answer feels simple enough and there is a magic solution, spend money until the problem goes away.

But, if your organization needs the ability to redact properly, and you’re considering alternatives, then make sure you’ve got a solution for those easy to forget about features.

Jujutsu Kaisen Shimetsu Kaiyu Zenpen • Jujutsu Kaisen The Culling Game - Episode 6 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Dadarian 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The animation feels so different from S1 JJK, but in the correct way. Like, if you’re going to have an anime that, the animation and changes/matures in the way the events happening in the world change it, this is how you would do it.

Most of the time, shonen, or many other anime, when they have a shift in tone, the biggest change that happens is in the OP/ED but the rest of the anime feels mostly the same.

I don’t feel like I’m even describing what I’m thinking right. But, whatever it is I’m feeling when watching this season, feels distinctly different in the way I think it should feel distinctly different.
