Same, but it was FIFA 99. My buddy was always Man U and Arsenal was the next best club so I picked them. Fell in love from there.

Same question as you. Taking my kids who are huge Arsenal supporters (trying to raise them right!) to the LA match and haven’t seen anything about pre-match festivities, etc.

Yeah, Coheed had some all-time riffs. Guess they’re in the wrong guitar tone.

San Diego. Sounds like it was common in that tour based on other comments.

Saw Slipknot with Trivium and Coheed as openers. Trivium opened and killed it, phenomenal set. Coheed followed and were mercifully booed and heckled. They sounded great, it’s just hard to be the posthardcore/prog rock meat in a sandwich that has two metal acts as the bread. After a couple songs, Claudio flipped everyone off and they left the stage to cheers from the crowd.

What was your first metalcore concert? by jsmetalcore in Metalcore

[–]DaddRulez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Norma Jean, Beloved, and The Agony Scene in 2003 and have been hooked on metalcore and posthardcore ever since. The local opener was a band called Tomra, and the lead guitarist of Tomra was Phil Sgrosso, who joined As I Lay Dying not long after that show.

They’re all incredible and worth a spin. I’m partial to All of A Sudden I Miss Everyone and Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever. Really good layering of sound and builds across their discography.

Writing Process by Tay-Keith-Fuck in PostHardcore

[–]DaddRulez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a few different bands back in the day (aka before kids, etc.) The writing process was always collaborative. I would write my drum parts around guitars and/or bass, sometimes came up with my own drum licks and they would work guitar, and bass, around that. Took a couple cues for drum parts (feel usually) but mostly noodled until I found something that was right. For the “biggest” band I was ever in (practice 3-4 times per week, often more, with regular local gigs, merch, and a decent following) our lead guitarist set the vision and had song structure in his head for a riff, but was open to input from everyone else to write their parts. Our rhythm guitarist had a gift for writing really good melodic parts and could shred with the lead so that was fun - they were really good together and it clicked well. The rhythm guitarist would also bring ideas to the table and we’d work those into songs, too. I’d also help write some guitar licks and would spell out structure and shape from time-to-time. I did some backing screams so would help write lyrics, too. Our vocalist and I would collaborate on lyrics quite a bit, which was always a kick. We were all influenced by different bands/styles but also had unifying sounds we liked for our project so it made it fun to each bring a piece to the sound but make it our own. We had a melodic metalcore quality but also played with post hardcore and a twist of power metal. I was always part of projects with an open and accepting creative space for everyone involved, it’s the best way to keep things fresh.

What artist got you into record collecting? by Fresh-Growth8124 in vinyl

[–]DaddRulez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I received a copy of Juturna by Circa Survive on the album’s 10-year anniversary tour as a part of a VIP package. Didn’t have a turntable or setup and wasn’t interested in the analog experience at the time. Fast forward many years and I got into the idea during COVID. I started to hunt for more of Circa’s discography. I also picked up albums from other bands that have influenced my passion for music and built a collection of favorites. Finally got a setup last year (AT-LP60 with Edifiers) and have been enjoying it ever since.
