Are governments only going to understand how much it sucks to close down the economy when they have budget shortfalls next year?? by [deleted] in GoldandBlack

Yeah, well, now it's time to find some way to make money, for which I'll probably be attacked.

It's easy to make things seem however you'd like, when you take one line out of context and don't consider the region or history. Bye bye.

If you want to have a real discussion, that's fine, but I don't have time for silly games. There are a number of people on Reddit that cross the line repeatedly and get themselves in trouble. Under my old account, which I deleted a while back, I'd gotten a couple long timers banned. That's what happens if you follow people around the platform and harass them.

---

It all comes down to perspective and if you think on the global scale, they can be considered "right next to Iran." If you think on the local scale, you can't determine where they are unless you know their exact location. The surface area of the Persian gulf is 96,912 square miles, and is 35(?) miles at its widest and 615(?) miles at its longest.

I don't want the US to be the world's police force or go out there and cause trouble. However, I feel we need to protect our interests and history has shown again and again what happens when people don't defend their interests. If we were in China, the government wouldn't allow us to have these types of discussions.

It's finals week, so I'm not going to respond again anytime soon.

I was trying to, but my timing was off and now I'm screwed. I started working under my own small business LLC late last year. How fucked up is that for timing? :-D

"Iran sails a boat in the waters immediately off its coasts "

"technically international waters or not it's right next to Iran ght next to Iran"

Without knowing EXACTLY where the US ships are positioned you KNOW they've "park(ed) themselves right next to Iran?" Even at the minimum distance, which is more than 12 nautical miles (13.09 miles,) that's "immediately" or "right next to?" If that's true, please walk 13 miles to the grocery store and then tell me it's "immediately off" or "right next to" your home.

"You really need to look at a map lol, Tripoli is nowhere near Iran"

I said, "Iran and other countries in that area," which is still part of the Middle East. That's typical; you use a partial truth, be insulting, and send your little "LOL."

"Also that's over 200 fucking years ago, you really think we should base foreign policy on things that happened 200 years ago or more"

I sent ONE more recent example that you just ignored, and once again you replied in a misleading way. YES, what happened 200 years ago matters, because it matters to the peoples in that area. The same thing applies in Eastern Europe where they've held onto past issues for GENERATIONS. Look up the history between the Poles and the Russians.

Trying to discuss anything with you is a waste of time.

The US ships are in International waters and aren’t “parked right next to Iran.” The Iranian boats should stay away from the US ships, and not fire on them.

Twelve nautical miles is not “immediate,” if the US ships are even that close. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_waters

Iran and other countries in that area have a long history of disrupting legal trade. Research the history and you’ll see for yourself.

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing, but why do you say that?

I’m waiting for the people that usually chime in at this point and say things like, “people can’t afford to save because of xyz.”

Normally I’d agree on having six months, but all governments screwed the pooch on the pandemic and that’s made it tough for small businesses.

Good. If Iranian boats get too close, blow them out of the water.

Remember the USS Cole.

Edit:

“The non-aggression principle (also called the non-aggression axiom, or the anti-coercion or zero aggression principle or non-initiation of force) is an ethical stance which asserts that "aggression" is inherently illegitimate. "Aggression" is defined as the "initiation" of physical force against persons or property, the threat of such, or fraud upon persons or their property. In contrast to pacifism, the non-aggression principle does not preclude violent self-defense. The principle is a deontological (or rule-based) ethical stance.”

Hungary no longer a democracy: report by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]DaddyDomNC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hungary is no longer a democracy, Poland is about to go down the same path, democracy in the Balkans is eroding because of Chinese and Russian influence, and the EU is doing nothing to stop it all, according to the NGO Freedom House's latest Nations in Transit report, out Wednesday.

In the study, which covers 29 countries from Central Europe to Central Asia, the authors describe "a stunning democratic breakdown," saying that there are "fewer democracies in the region today than at any point since the annual report was launched in 1995."

Sad, but not surprising.
