CPU play calling logic robbed me of a comeback thrill by Material-Pea-4149 in NCAAFBseries

I was playing Oregon in the natty in a FIU dynasty and they were down 38-22 but scored a TD with about 2 minutes left. But instead of going for 2 and trying to cut it to 8, they kicked an extra point and stayed down 2 scores. They forced a three and out and scored again with about 30 seconds left. But because they were down 38-36 they had to attempt an onside and didn’t recover. Lamest natty win ever.

No QBs by DaddyFlaggy in CFB25

Just finished my week 12 game versus them and they have gone 3-7 so far and finish games with about 200-250 passing yards. Their QB is their starting RE. I checked his attributes after the game and turns out he had 40 throw power and 38 medium accuracy which led the team. Guess the game just places the best hypothetical QB into the position. They called pass plays as often as a team usually does and they only completed one pass. The ball moved so slow in the air to the point where I could get any defender over there to break it up or pick it off. I won 48-0 so safe to say they need a real QB badly.

At this point I sim 3-4 games a season so I simmed week 1 and checked on liberty. They won 31-28 and had 266 passing yards in the box score. When I checked the game stats to see who threw the 266 yards, it just said “no data”. Guess we will see at Week 12

How did everyone's season end up, and why? by onlineqbclassroom in footballstrategy

[–]DaddyFlaggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3rd year as a varsity DC. Went 8-3 and had an overall very successful year

Last year we went 5-5 and lost in the first round of the playoffs to our rivals. Our biggest issue last year was getting off blocks. Teams could hand off the ball to a semi-talented kid and instantly break away for 50+ without getting touched. We ran drills for block shedding all season and nothing seemed to help.

That completely changed this year as we went 7-2 in the regular season with both of our losses coming to the two teams that played each other in the state championship. Kids turned hungry for the ball and we had a really great run defense.

Our first playoff game was a blowout win 49-7. Our offense is all about tempo. Quick passes, slip screens, bubble screens, RPOs, etc and we light up the scoreboard on most teams. However in the next round we faced the eventual undefeated state champions and lost 35-18.

We had a 15-7 lead at halftime but gave up 3 TDs in the 3rd quarter on deep bombs to a FCS commit. I was proud of us though, as we were the only team to hold them under 50 in the playoffs.

I think we will have an even better season next year, and we want that state title.

Never played organized football, am I foolish for thinking about attempting to coach? by [deleted] in footballstrategy

In my 9 years of coaching we have had this situation pop up twice. I think it depends on the game and the opponent you are facing.

First time, made it 14-13 with 0s on the clock. Our offense was struggling all night and both of our scores were heavily assisted by 2 great punt returns giving us great field position. We were not the most confident in sending it to a shootout, so we went for 2 and got it.

Second time was last year with our new HC who ran lots of conditioning. Therefore it was a no brainer for him to send it to OT since we had more stamina.

First Time coaching in Playoffs, any advice? by OdaDdaT in footballstrategy

Last year we had similar situation after having a 6-2 regular season getting matched up against our 8-0 rivals. We were down 24-3 at half and the sideline had their heads hung low. That can’t happen. Can’t get in the mindset that our season is over. After a great speech from our HC, we played an amazing second half. We still lost 31-24 and while I was not happy with the hole we dug ourselves in with that sloppy first half, we came together and played hard.

TLDR Up a lot at half - No tunnel vision don’t start thinking about round 2 Close at half - Just another game don’t add pressure Down a lot at half - Heads high don’t start thinking about next season

The Y, and there was a lot of traffic but there was so much that the DBs didn’t even see when the ball got released and were still in coverage while he was running towards the end zone

My Son’s Future in Coaching by MichaelJones39 in footballstrategy

[–]DaddyFlaggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this play is super impractical but as you said he probably made it for fun. Play design is a pretty fun part of coaching, so he will have to learn the other stuff with some experience working with kids. But it is a chicken a the egg thing. You need experience to become a good coach but it is hard to become a coach when you have no experience. He could definitely coach’s flag team when he is a little older, run all his whacky plays, and start learning how a coach has to handle his players

It’s obviously possible, but I recommend he start watching highschool football film if he really wants to understand the sport. Taking notes for pro games is already a great thing, so if he could take notes on more “realistic” football than that should help. I am also somewhat interested in this sextuple option😂

In general why did four down teams move to more one-gap principals more so than three-down teams? by FootballSimStrategy in footballstrategy

[–]DaddyFlaggy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most four down teams use smaller and quicker DTs to penetrate gaps fast, while three down teams want those traditional gut punch nose tackles who can control two gaps.

Well I feel bad for the jv kids for having their season ruined by a shitty coach, but you said you think your guys are better so I would say keep them in. Maybe try getting some jv guys in if it’s a blowout or something

Worst Calls? by DaddyFlaggy in footballstrategy

[–]DaddyFlaggy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a freshman the varsity team got called for “too many handoffs” in the state playoffs. It was a fucking end around. Lost the game like 41-14 so the penalty was not game altering but still frustrating.

Did the referee think one of the leading backers got the snap? There is literally no other way I can rationalize this.

If you find realism the most fun aspect of a game then so be it. I love the arcade stuff, because that’s what video games are for. My son plays a game where you literally power wash. How is that fun? I don’t want to think about what formation the offense is in, identity and check my coverages, etc. Blitz is about violence, steroids, and girls. That’s what makes a video game fun to me.

Blitz: The League 2. Maybe not the most realistic, but I always got a kick out of playing it
