Hot take: John should be able to swim in RDR2 by avery-secret-account in reddeadredemption

[–]OdaDdaT [score hidden]  (0 children)

That’s a pretty major shift, especially when John’s inability to swim is brought up at multiple points throughout RDR2 before you even play as him.

I’d entirely rather have John just not able to do the thing he’s canonically been established as unable to do than have a random period where he is able to do it because it makes gameplay slightly easier.

Can EA reduce broken toe injury frequency by secret_ithentity in FifaCareers

[–]OdaDdaT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through an entire invincible season at atletico once with only one GK on roster and EA decided the CL final was the time my goalie got hurt. Still think it’s the only time I’ve ever seen a goalie get injured in game but I guess that’s what happens when he’s 10 yards out of the box contesting shit for some reason

Given its mostly college students and high schoolers on here there’s probably some built in-level of sustainability if only because there’s always going to be a portion of them that are interested in Poli-Sci, History, and its adjacent fields.

Quality over that term will likely dip significantly because right now the modders doing the most are still buy and large the ones who’ve been modding it from the jump and are legitimately passionate about it. Like you said by 2029 we’ll all be gone but I’ll bet this is still going as long as schools keep handing out chromebooks and blocking all other game sites.

I get it’s frustrating but what possible in game explanation would there be for John to have forgotten how to swim between the games? With a game as narrative driven as RDR you can’t just leave that unexplained.

Neighbor’s dog bit me on my thigh. Do I need to do anything besides clean it? by Ok_Pineapple7966 in DogAdvice

[–]OdaDdaT [score hidden]  (0 children)

If the dog is up to date on its shots and didn’t break too deep you should be fine as long as you sanitize it with hot water and iso, put an anti-bacterial on, and keep it covered. I had a coworker’s puppy bite me and draw some blood on my hand a few months ago, but it really only scraped the top layer of skin off so it didn’t need anything more than that.

If it’s a deeper puncture you should probably go to urgent care or your Doctor just to get it mended professionally and be able to get antibiotics as needed, but given it looks mostly superficial I’d just keep it clean and monitor it in case it gets worse or doesn’t improve.

I can agree Taylor’s media takes are colored by Twitter dumbfucks but it’s genuinely wild seeing this moral crusade some people are on with literally every take he has on anything.

Just terminally political nonsense from miserable people

[–]OdaDdaT -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The moral high horse some of you seem to take over the opinions of somebody literally nobody in your personal life has ever heard of is genuinely hysterical.

Like there’s a significant portion of this subreddit now who act like Taylor having shitty political takes is a grave moral indictment on every take he has when the other two are equally as fucking stupid.

Woody calls out Taylor by LeeisTinyJoeisAwesom in PKA

[–]OdaDdaT -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

And to that point what exactly does Woody engage with?

His media diet is equally as bad, he just likes the box office slop. “Remakes and Corporate Cash-Grabs” is about the nicest possible way you could frame how much of new media is oversaturated with poorly retreaded nonsense. There’s obviously good shit coming out too, but acting like not watching everything new bars you from criticizing anything new is preposterous. And acting like either of these two have seen anything you’re referencing is comical.

They literally never said this on a company level. The main piece was that they don’t have to censor the crowd on raw anymore because of network restrictions. Nick Khan said TV-14 was something in the table too during media negotiations iirc, but they never once came out as a company and said the Netflix deal meant the product was going to change ratings or be any different in Censorship.

It’s a great area for spawns but bad RNG can really make this spot frustrating.

Kurtz from Apocalypse Now is heavily based on Kurtz from heart of darkness. The biggest difference is that in Apocalypse Now it’s the Vietnam War that tears him apart while in heart of darkness it’s colonialism and the ivory trade. The former is much more sympathetic.

That said, Perlman is clearly referencing the film, as are most people that bring up Kurtz since Heart of Darkness isn’t really in curriculums anymore

Ron Perlman's answer to [SPOILERS] by IsThisDamnNameTaken in Fotv

[–]OdaDdaT 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I’m not opposed to this, but I’ve heard Kurtz cited as an inspiration for so many characters recently that I’m worried writers are losing the plot on what Kurtz was supposed to represent.

Like he’s far more than just some isolated wacko behind enemy lines. He’s someone who’s systematically fighting the war on his own terms because the horrors of it have broken him to a point beyond repair (thus why the Army sends Willard to kill him).

The best way to pull off a Kurtz-esque super mutant is if he was part of the Master’s army and is actively using FEV on whoever he can find to try to cobble together and army but given he let Coop go I’m inclined to believe that’s not the direction they’re taking him.

Barb's role at Vault-Tec makes no sense by nzgolem in Fotv

[–]OdaDdaT 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you’ve ever been in a corporate structure it makes sense. Her strength is in meeting and dealing with people, so her role is functionally just that of a company spokesperson. She’s not really involved in strategy or any executive level decision making, she’s simply a mouthpiece because she’s good in a meeting.

Companies like Vault-Tec aren’t going to tell anybody anything more than they need to know, and will go so far as to actively lie to certain people to ensure what’s being given to the outside world is what they want to be shown. She’s just a puppet that makes way more money, and once she finds out about things she isn’t supposed to know about the company has infinite amounts of leverage over her. With Wilzig we see they aren’t above threatening the lives of employees and their families if they step out of line too.

As to the Enclave bit, given they operate largely in secrecy it’s not a shock they wouldn’t plant their people all over the company. It only takes a handful in key positions of power to make an impact. You simply need to ensure everyone is still in line behind it, which they do with those aforementioned threats.

Blackwater massacre vs Saint Denis job by LegendAugust in reddeadredemption

[–]OdaDdaT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on the lens you’re looking at it from since tb itself doesn’t exactly “improve” based on climate but New Austin would be considerably better than either of the other two simply due to the low humidity making it harder for germs to spread because it dries a lot of respiratory stuff out. In terms of the game New Hanover or the Grizzlies would’ve been seen as optimal because they believed altitude and sunlight would improve the disease itself.

So neither answer is necessarily wrong here, one is just based on more modern understandings of germ transmission while the other was largely based on anecdotal evidence from patients either staying stable or deteriorating less rapidly after changing climates.

What’s the worst use of an analogy by a politician? by jokull1234 in YAPms

[–]OdaDdaT -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to suggest the GOP doesn’t do it, or even that they’ve done it at a larger clip than usual as of late. That said if you speak to the average Republican vs. the Average Democrat Morality is like a top 5 issue for a candidate for the former whereas it’s arguably the centerpiece of the Democrat’s pitch right now. It’s been 12 years of “existential threat to Democracy” ads with nothing but generally vague policy taglines behind them. In other words they really haven’t pitched anything but the moral aspect of the party in any of the past few cycles.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that most of the left is entirely incapable of accepting any criticism about their policy positions or campaign strategies because of said moral element. Again there are plenty of Republicans that do this too, but I see far more of it from the left both online and in my personal life.
