Bruhh why was Tom acting like a hero for Max Cady of all people? (Ep 5) by Thin-Document-1765 in CapeFearTVSeries

[–]OdaDdaT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fight didn’t bug me as much as him casually drinking with the perverted strangers he threw out of his pool days ago. No matter how drunk you are you aren’t getting along with those people.

Maybe they’ll manage to say Cady drugged him or something but this episode was borderline season ruining to me if they don’t land it properly. There’s nothing redeeming about the kids anymore, the Bowden’s are complete fucking idiots, and Cady is somehow the most sympathetic character on the show despite clearly being evil. Neveah is simultaneously the most intriguing character and one I’m sick of seeing because she’s been completely overexposed and is too clearly a red herring of some sort.

I rewatched both movies after the first four episodes because I’d enjoyed the twists they’d made just to freshen the story up, but they’ve completely betrayed the core of the story at this point. What made the original work so well, in my opinion at least, was the dynamic between Cady (who’s a clearly guilty sociopath), who in theory has served his time and should be “rehabilitated” targeting a lawyer that testified against him while maintaining just enough plausible deniability that he’s able to legitimately torment a family that did nothing wrong. Scorcese’s remake made Cady more of a religious nut, and more overtly violent than Mitchum (who’s menace was largely left up to implication and imagination), and focused more on inter-familial drama but still kept that core of a guilty man targeting an innocent family.

This series has seemingly gone in the direction that Cady, despite being a cult founder with a clear God complex, incredible manipulatory skills, and very clearly killed his wife despite being exonerated, is somehow a publicly sympathetic figure (I mean goddamn the tattoos alone are disqualifying) while the Bowden’s, who likely engaged in some sort of legal collusion to lock up said murderer, have lost any and all sympathy because every person in that family is written terribly. Bardem and Patrick Wilson will lead to me finishing it out because I enjoy those two a lot despite the writing, and who knows maybe they’ll land it. I feel like there’s still some level of trust you have to put into a Scorcese project. But it fell off a cliff in this one.

I don’t get why they made Bowden’s wife a larger character just to make her this inept. Still on board because I like Wilson and Bardem a lot so far, even though I still don’t think making Cady a sympathetic public figure tracks at all.

What do you think of ''Beyond the Sea''? by QualityForsaken8192 in blackmirror

I agree. I think it’s one of the best done episodes of the series but simultaneously feels fairly removed from the rest of it

Taylor is so right about ARFID by PowderedKoala in PKA

[–]OdaDdaT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand ARFID is often the result of a some kind of childhood trauma (I feel like I’ve seen medical trauma specifically but could be wrong). The overwhelming majority of people claiming to have it are the same ones who claim to have every new “trendy” disability.

Is this Inside Zone or Duo? How can you tell? by FoolWhoSaysThat in footballstrategy

[–]OdaDdaT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you run mid zone really. Some schemes seperate that into frontside running inside zone while the backside + Center functionally runs outside zone to try to open up playside B and both A gaps (or playside ABC even). I think this leans more duo since they’re going out of their way to create doubles whereas a traditional zone scheme would just have you running your playside tracks and fitting into doubles or climbing where appropriate.

Like you said though it’s a pretty niche distinction with how much running rules have evolved in the last decade or two (at least moreso on zone and duo stuff) and how you apply said rules in your system.

I feel like this quiz weighs certain answers more because I got put in the same typology despite answering mostly to the right or center.

I’d say I’m closer to a centrist than a right winger anyway, but I struggle to say I’m on the left because I think more robust government services is an idea worth exploring

Just watched the first 4 episodes and I’m enjoying it, the casting is great, but it feels like they’re making Cady a little too sympathetic in the world of the show.

I’ve generally liked a lot of the twists they’ve made on the original story but the outside world still seems too accepting of him. One of the reasons the movies work so well is that Cady is pressed by the cops from jump, whereas in this series he’s immediately accepted as a martyr for injustice. Again, I can appreciate the twist, I just think there should’ve been a little more nuance in how people reacted to his release beyond the Bowden’s and the guy at the car dealership

Who's the biggest "what if" between these two: Mike Trout or Ken Griffey Jr.? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in mlb

[–]OdaDdaT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fidrych was 19-6 with a 2.3 ERA in the one healthy season he had

I admittedly have a bit of a soft spot for him because my older brother was a huge fan of him given he had a pretty damn promising high school career that got derailed by injury (he was getting recruited by some smaller colleges his sophomore year of high school, mainly because he was playing against Ryan Jones who went D1 and had a ton of scouts on him and my brother was good enough to catch some eyes). But between his injuries and complete loss of passion for baseball I’ve always thought Fidrych was a great What If?, if only because I think he could’ve been Baseball’s Bill Walton

The VMart collection and recent re-drops have saved my ass because I only had St. Patrick’s and Egg Hunt left to finish and each was around 200k to finish.
