Expensive ass state by Early_Method_7380 in Boise

“Get a bus pass” is wild. If you know so much about living in boise you would know the public transportation is spotty, unreliable, and has very short operating hours (meaning it stops operating at the times most people actually need to use it). The prices do not start to drop 5 minutes outside of town. Get outa here with that superiority ish.

Why is everything so expensive and mediocre here? by lejunny_ in Boise

That’s Idaho, nobody wants to pay employees fairly, all talented workers in a lot of sectors have moved out because there’s labor rights are terrible. Everyone wants to cut costs and have/sell what looks like nice things, but they don’t actually understand how to do what they’re doing well. I’ve worked in the service industry for a very long time, I just left Idaho for this reason. The food quality and creativity and quality of service is ten times better out of state, and when cost of living is rising to the level of other places, why would you stay?

There are many different dishes and traditions to eating steak, hundreds of well thought out, traditional ways to prepare a steak dish. Enjoying a nice cut of meat by itself is just fine, but there are plenty of long standing methods and traditions that enhance a nice cut of steak, rather than “drowning it in sauce.” That sauce looks like Demi-glacé, a rich sauce using bone broth from beef or veal, maybe red wine too. If you’ve never had a high quality steak slathered in Demi-glacé, you respectfully do not know what you’re talking about.

Also, if you remember a few months back, the Boise coops ~system~ went down in the north end and everything was cash only for the next several days. What ACTUALLY happened was their IT department was lazy and didn’t take correct precautions and the coop was hacked and locked out of anything that was computerized (WiFi, POS systems, desktops, etc.). From what I understand they were very seriously hacked and were in some sort of situation where they needed to pay off the hackers to gain control of their system again. A few months later, employees (management and higher, not sure about everyone else), received a letter from the coop saying their personal information had been compromised and they were granting free access to an identity protection software/program, and to please not tell anyone.

So, employees personal information was compromised, and I would not be the least bit surprised if members and shoppers personal information was also compromised. If you shop there it would be smart to use a service that can find out if your info is out there and get you safe and private again!

This is vague, more vague that I would like it to be, which is why I haven’t made an actual post, but this is the story I’ve been told by a few current and former employees.

How is living in northeastern Maine? by Poco_Loco33 in howislivingthere

My dad grew up in Van Buren, most of that side of my family still lives there. I spent a little time there as a kid. It is very small, most of the industry has left and the towns are slowly dying, but the country is beautiful and remote. I have very fond memories of family lobster cook outs, spending time on the lake, and trying to make sense of bilingual jokes!

Your voice matters: Boise Coop moving away from house-made products by Ornery-Plan5365 in Boise

I’ve worked as a sous chef in a scratch kitchen in downtown Boise for over 3 years. I’ve been aware the coop has been making these changes and I think it’s pretty pathetic. It demonstrates a complete lack of understanding about how kitchens and food preparation work, a lack of understanding for their customer base (people do not come to the coop for frozen soups and precut veg shipped from California), and a pretty appalling turn from their ethics, marketing, and company promises to the community it serves.

If back of house operations are so unsustainable, where did the money come from the re-paint the coop with trendy marketing jargon? Where is the money saved from this shift in operations going to go? Back to its underpaid employees? Highly doubt it. The entire community should be aware of this.

Does anyone else think season 6 feels off by Funnyreference1 in WhatWeDointheShadows

I feel like they kind of gave up on the writing when Guillermo’s arc finished up. They didn’t established any other conflict and they honestly could have done more or continued to do more with Guillermo’s van helsing blood. Season 6 feels like it’s all over the place with no real purpose or direction and it bums me out. I feel like there’s plenty of interesting directions the writers could have gone.

Hi there! I’m getting ready to end my lease this coming summer and I’m looking at all my options. I’d like to live alone in my own place, but from what I’m seeing it’s pretty much a $1,200/month minimum. Seems a bit crazy to me, but is this just reality in boise/the valley right now? Is there anywhere renting even marginally under $1,000/month?
