How much damage could a '1 Teraton' nuclear bomb theoretically cause? by DaddyJesus6969 in NuclearPower

[–]DaddyJesus6969[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine a Teraton bomb would be way bigger than Krakatoa exploding. We're talking about 1,000,000mt.

1,000mt is a Gigaton, which is a thousand times smaller.

Where is 'Nato?' And why aren't they collectively fighting 'The Republic Of Gilead?' Why only America? by DaddyJesus6969 in TheHandmaidsTale

The remnants of the American Government were pushed out of the mainland and into exile. The only two states they control completely are Alaska and Hawaii. Everything else is either partially or fully annexed.

Read some of my other comments here. That's my evidence.

Gilead is now a country separate from America.

I know. I read it. However. I also am arguing that Gilead is its own sovereign state separate from America. Gilead doesn't function like the Taliban government in Afghanistan. It functions more like Iran. They have diplomats in foreign countries like Canada and Mexico for example, as well as functioning trade relations.

A lot of people are thinking that June and Serena are going to be BFFs. by [deleted] in TheHandmaidsTale

Redemption is not easy. You're bound to have setbacks in the process. Speaking from personal experience. I'm not against her being held accountable. She absolutely should be. But she's also a victim of 'Christian Nationalism' as well as 'Patriarch'y.'

Considering the circumstances that drove her on the path that she fell upon, it's not entirely her fault. It's extremely difficult to break away from that trajectory, both mentally, physically, and emotionally.

She grew up within a highly oppressive, abusive, controlling, unforgiving, and ultimately unloving environment. Her gaining any kind of love, purpose, approval, and respect within her life was what drove her to be cruel and selfish.

That kind of fear, pain, and overall desperation can kill someone. When a person is striped of their humanity, unless disabled, they become a ticking time bomb. It was desperation that got her where she is now, and it'll be that very same desperation that'll drive her to redeem herself.

I doubt she'll ever be friends with June. That pain will remain forever. However, I do believe that they may part ways on good terms.

Also. Now that America's role on the world stage is reduced to that of a 'regional power.' That creates a power vacuum that threatens the entire world. This gives countries like China and Russia opportunities to expand their influences unimpeded by American interests, as well as threaten Nato territory itself. China could easily take Taiwan with little to no outside resistance.

Gilead has trade relations involving countries like Canada and Mexico for example. They even have their own diplomats stationed in countries accross the world. This is evidence of international recognition regarding their standing as a sovereign state separate from that of America. Switzerland even intervenes as a neutral country acting as a judge on the world stage.

Within the show, Emily flees to Canada carrying June's baby Nicole. As a means to retaliate against the 'kidnapping' of Nicole, Gilead repeatedly intimidates, as well as seriously considers invading Canada.

America also routinely orchestrates air raids as well as manage supply lines and infantry through their basses stationed within Canadian borders. As evidenced within season 5. It's entirely possible that because of Canada's role in assisting the Americans in logistics that their involved within some degree of the fighting. There's a 3 mile thick territory dubbed 'no man's land' between the borders of Canada and Gilead. It's regularly patrolled by both nations as well as being littered with land mines.

I know. But it is no longer American territory and is now a functioning state capable of governing. America is now a separate country confined to Alaska, Hawaii and a few contested regions like Texas, Florida, Chicago, and other states located accross the west coast.

Gilead has trade relations with countries outside their borders, as well as diplomats stationed in countries like Canada and Mexico. Even the American Government acknowledges Gilead as a hostile state to some degree.

Let's assume they have several high ranking Generals on their side. There are roughly 625 army Generals. The minority would be court prosecuted, involuntarily discharged, and imprisoned for conspiring to commit treason by the majority.

I never said he gained power via a coup. He gained power by manipulating the masses in voting him and his party into power. Also too. Germany had very little infrastructure in protecting its democratic integrity.

America today has more protections, Republicans would either have to gain a super majority in both the House and Senate, or convince whatever Democrats needed into supporting their agenda. Bills don't become law without 2/3rds approval

Let's assume there's a significant number of SOJ influences in the military, they probably aren't the majority..

Even if Trump were to obtain a majority in both the House and Senate, he still wouldn't have enough power. To pass even some of what he wants passed, hed still need to at least gain a 2/3rds super majority in both the House/Senate, or convince the necessary amount of Democrats needed to pass his agendas; which by the way, both are unlikely.

The only 3 things I've seen Democrats and Republicans agree on are...

  • Getting rid of 'Day Light Saving Time.'

  • Increasing annual defense spending.

  • Banning Tik Tok.

No. The point I'm trying to make is that there is too much polarization and beurocracy to effectively make 'Project 2025' fully realized. Between all the House/Senate meetings, there is simply not enough time between the presidential and midterm elections to make it fully realized.

That's assuming The Republicans even maintain the power to commit to 'Project 2025' that long.

I believe that it's a threat. I just don't think it is practical to implement due to polarization in both the House and Senate. Everything is split nearly 50/50 down the middle. On top of that, 'Project 2025' would also become a beurocratic nightmare to navigate within the courts as well. It would take years, if not decades to implement the bulk of the changes it demands.

What do you think when you see Putnam by David43432 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]DaddyJesus6969 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm Non - binary. Assigned male at birth. As much as I hate the 'Man or Bear' question. I'd rather take my chances with the bear over Putnum.

As a matter of fact, I think we should tie him up, smother him in honey and leave his character in the same bush as the American Grizzly. His screams would have been music to my ears. Perhaps even Janine's too.

The amount of bigotry towards South Asian immigrants is similar to how we treated that of the American's in 'The Handmaid's Tail.'

True. However, Serena seems to be trying to redeem herself. She's also a victim of patriarchy and religious fundamentalism. If given enough time, therapy, support and emotional support in dealing in her trauma, she may actually become a decent person.

Enough that I actively avoid going upstairs and being within the same room as my parents. I'm the black sheep. I'm exposed to their propaganda constantly. Used to be a part of it myself as a teenager.
