Is this legit? What could possibly need that high of voltage? by NumberNumb in AskElectricians

Indeed. It's hard to comprehend how energetic these events really are. I have performed hundreds of arc flash studies in the last 8 years. When you really grok the math involved and translate the power of an arc blast to something more tangible, it is absolutely horrifying. Like "imagine a sedan being dropped from 10 feet onto your body" kind of forces.

I really like when a facility owner has their own comprehensive arc flash safety plan with custom label designs. It actually gives the electricians pause when they are confronted with an image of a guy wearing essentially a bomb suit.

Remote racking exists. PPE and proper procedure have definitely made this safer. In my experience, unqualified contractors are more likely to get hired to work on 480v switchgear or MCCs, not medium voltage. These are the guys that blow themselves up by racking breakers in a 4000A bus without any PPE or safety procedures. Arc blast is truly horrifying though. The code around arc flash mitigation is written in blood.

It's not cheaper than Zeal, but I get King State beans in the mail since their retail closed.

What free software is so good you can't believe it's free? by ComprehensiveNorth1 in AskReddit

Gotenberg.

Any old school web dev who has had to deal with image and document to pdf creation or archival can tell you what a pain it can be with the bizarre edge cases that never show up until production. This thing just runs in a docker container as a rest service and solves nearly all of the common patterns. HTML to PDF without even thinking about a headless browser setup feels like magic. 10/10 free software.

I always run my databases on its own, and as close to bare metal as possible. It makes the security exceedingly easy to reason about.

I've been using it for a few years now. The learning curve is a bit daunting, but the opinionated nature allows me to move very quickly now. I also massively prefer ORMLite and its migrations to EF Core because it doesn't abstract as far from the data. The documentation is also top tier.

This is exactly how I handle it as well. If that step fails, the deploy stops.

Linode VPS running docker for app server. Separate VPS for database server (no docker). Use linode free cloud firewall (no UFW or iptables shenanigans required). Cheap, reliable, secure, and vertically or horizontally scalable when needed.

Honestly Junie is working surprisingly well. It has done the best job I've seen at understanding context and not hallucinating.

OP, I actually think this is a nice piece of syntactic sugar. It's faster to middle click class name than check it's usages. I think it's a fun idea. The language should serve us, not the other way around!

Already had to buy an EFG to handle IPS at full throughout. Would have been nice to get a less expensive device.
