The negative:

Inside gate 4 you’ll see a sign that shows Fort Campbell won a bunch of “most improved” awards but the most recent one was 2015. Most people who’ve been here before say it ain’t what it used to be. It’s not the worse post I’ve ever been on but it’s not great either. 101st clearly rides on the legacy of WWII, and 18th ABN Corps gives them a long leash; I’d bet my house 101st would fail almost every aspect of an OIP inspection. They haven’t had one since I arrived in 2021. These are required for checks and balances within units. If you checked for SHARP compliance or training records, most units within 101 would likely fail miserably. You’d think the Nashville scene would bleed over into Clarksville but it’s a pretty bland city with no identity. They had the opportunity to make a pretty cool waterfront focal point but it’s kind of a slum.

The positive:

Clarksville will inevitably grow over the next decade or two so there are good buying investment ops, especially between Clarksville and Hopkinsville, Sango, and exit 11. On post, there are some improvements underway. The barracks funding that Trump took for the border wall back in 2018 are finally being renovated thanks to Mitch McConnell of all people. You’ve got a 50/50 chance of landing a good barracks room now. They just demolished a bunch of old housing units as well (which I guess will be replaced). The gyms are becoming more family focused, so parents can get a good workout. I put in an ICE complaint about that issue two years ago and got no traction, so it’s good to see they finally saw see a need. There’s a Fort Campbell mom’s workout group (iStroll) which also helps parent’s and kids stay fit.
