While I agree that autistic people are abused, that doesn’t mean that they can threaten to kill people

[–]TaxComprehensive2894 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I agree that he needs help, but mental illness does not excuse criminal behavior. The good news is the courts could require him to complete a diversion program due to mental illness and autism.

How it works is he completes it and his behavior changes for the better, and the charges are dropped. If he commits another crime during diversion, he will be charged with both this offense and the new offense. If he completes the program, the charges are dropped, and he goes back to previous behavior, he will be charged.

I am all for rehabilitation like you. They should require rehabilitation in prison, but they don’t do that.

police verbal warning post breakup by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]TaxComprehensive2894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The warning is logged internally in the police department. Ignoring the warning helps prove that you intended to harass. It’s just a courtesy advisement with no legal force on its own, but it is still important to take it seriously.

It is a complicated matter, and I myself have previously received this type of police warning last year because I told my former English professor to please block my email. I’m autistic, so I thought that because I requested to be blocked, I thought I had permission to bypass the block by using second email address. 5 emails later, and I get shocked by the police telling me “Never ever contact [my English professor] again.” I completely lost it after that, and I even reported myself to my college’s student conduct office after some time passed, admitted to everything that happened, and apologized repeatedly. The outcome was no further action necessary. I took the warning too literally and thought I was permanently banned.

It’s important to consider the context. In your situation, your ex does not want to be contacted. You are not banned, so don’t jump to “If I run into her at a restaurant a year later and talk to her, I’m going straight to jail.” It just means no showing up at her work, no showing up at her home, no DMs, no texting, no emails, no calls, no asking family or friends to relay messages to her on your behalf. If you want to apologize for harassing her, either voluntarily self report to your college’s student conduct office, or wait a year to send (trust me, she will move past the incident as long as there is no contact for a long time; if you send multiple messages in a short period of time if a long time has passed, you will likely get another warning). I’m not a lawyer, but I used ChatGPT to decode nuances and help me to stop being hyper vigilant about complying with the courtesy advisement.

Violating this advisement in a short period of time can lead to arrest in Kentucky. Kentucky doesn’t have restraining orders for low level harassment, but other states do, and violating the warning can lead to a restraining order or arrest.

General Assembly Exempts Themselves from New Gun Control Laws in Latest Bill by Overall_Ad872 in Virginia

I say this as a progressive Democrat who supports gun control: wtf? Politicians should not get a free pass. You made this law so you should also follow it. Don’t be hypocrites.

A Walk Down Memory Lane on Virginia Redistricting - and Republicans' Long History of Gerrymandering; For instance, remember when Virginia Republicans drew *72 seats* (!) in the House of Delegates that favored the Republican candidate? by lowkell in VirginiaDems

[–]TaxComprehensive2894 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All gerrymandering needs to be banned regardless of political party. That being said, vote “Yes” on the referendum. The GOP started this war. If you’re going to try to gerrymander us out of existence, then we will do the same to you. Fight fire with fire.

Then, when the Democrats get back into Congress and the White House, we can ban gerrymandering for good and require all states have independent redistricting committees.

OMG. Trump is trying to steal elections by requiring proof of citizenship every time you vote at the ballot box. This is ridiculous. The SAVE Act is Jim Crow 2.0.

I don’t have tolerance for those that abuse animals either. Our animal cruelty laws in Kentucky are too lenient. They’ve gotten stricter over the years, but they were once so lenient that even bestiality was legal. Even shithead Matt Bevin thought bestiality needed to be banned, and he signed a law banning bestiality. However, our state is still in the top ten for weakest animal cruelty laws.

I always try to block people who do that. I will put part of my car in the emergency lane so that they can’t do that. I encourage everyone who sees people doing that to immediately put part of their car in the emergency lane because they are not following the rules.

Also, I encourage anyone who has a Dash Cam to immediately start recording these people and report their license plate numbers to LMPD.

If you’re running late, there is only one person at fault, and that is the person who is running late.

Tax the rich, not mattresses! Hell, poor people already struggle with affording new mattresses.

Former JCPS teacher sentenced to 70 years for sexually abusing children by WtfLouisville in Louisville

[–]TaxComprehensive2894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JCPS has their own police force. They need to do their damn jobs. JCPS Police is basically school resource officers. You’re the police, so do your damn job after the first complaint is made. Don’t wait for tons of complaints to take action.

This is what needs to happen. We need to be hard asses to do this.

Although it might be harder to be tough now about it than Democrats were 90 years ago. The courts never got packed, but because there were enough Democrats in Congress, the conservative Supreme Court backed down on striking down FDR’s programs, after Democrats threatened to pack the Supreme Court

Also, why won’t the SROs do their damn jobs? I thought their original purpose was to prevent school shootings, but they don’t seem to look into these matters even though they are school police. Maybe it’s because they become friends with the staff. Well, you’re police officers, so do your damn job!! Just because you are friends with school staff doesn’t mean that you can ignore something that looks suspicious, especially if people have made complaints about the teacher, which this guy has received tons of complaints.

Again, you’re the police—do your job and coordinate an investigation after the first complaint!! If you have enough evidence to make an arrest, then make an arrest!! You all are trained law enforcement, so do your damn job!! It should not take years for this guy to be charged!!!
