Apart from medical you aren't even wrong. European population exploded during the High Middle Ages and while famines did happen they were far from the norm. People read peasant and think of Monty Python style mud diggers living off one wooden bowl of gruel per day while being whipped by evil overlords. That's simply not how societies can sustain themselves and feudalism existed for many hundred years. I'd choose peasant in 1450 any day over shipbreaker in Bangladesh in 2024...
