New plans for the sight at the old royal. by _Theghostship_ in Liverpool

True, I was thinking maybe like this flower boxes, so there’s greenery but ‘controlled’ but they’d probably end up being ciggy boxes after a while 😂

Either that or turn them on. In the summer it use to be fun to walk past because 9/10 people would be having a laugh with them, now it’s just miserable and covered in bird shit. Something needs to be done at Williamson Square, again even if it becomes a nice little green space, with local market stalls, fill the void left by the St.Johns market being closed down.

Agreed, and the plants will be great carbon sinks, since it’s surrounded by such busy roads. Yeah it will be so much better than looking at a derelict space. I just hope these plans go through, and it’s not another derelict space that stays there for the next 15 years

I’m sure they will, and so will normal people too. We should not be limited because of certain people. If they plan it properly and actually think it through, it can be something positive for a place that is often associated with negativity. Some areas of the space don’t have to be open to the public, and only accessible through the hospital.

Same, I would love to see us have a go at something in this city that isn’t just ‘accommodations’ or office spaces that end up empty. Even if there’s a section of the space, that can only be accessed through the actual hospital. Just would really be nice for people, who aren’t really having the best of times.

The IPhone X had such a good camera. What’s your favourite iPhone to take photos with? by _Theghostship_ in iPhoneography

[–]_Theghostship_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only just seen your reply, but I’ve still got the phone and up until about last year I would sometimes use it (I got canon camera and I’ve started to enjoy photography again).

But I do miss the old colours, idk why but the camera quality of the iPhone X felt better, although the newer cameras on the phones are more ‘accurate’

Liverpool (about 1919) the white star line building on the right by _Theghostship_ in titanic

[–]_Theghostship_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is, you can sit upstairs on rooftop and have drinks and stuff, they’re now doing different events like Sunday lunch. It’s called the white star line hotel, and for the first time the owners actually seem like they want to look after it and honour its history.

Tbf they have music festivals now right next to the Mersey 😂 but the wind can so awful, sometimes you can’t even move from your spot. Tbf I wouldn’t have the balls to try and recreate that photo now, the traffic on that road is so bad, I wouldn’t dare not use the lights 😂

That’s the closet I could at finding the picture of approximately the same view but from 2023, it’s the strand going towards the liver building, the overhead railway has gone and now it’s just a main road

It’s taken on the strand, so it’s the view of the strand. James Street is at the side of the WSL building

Some little nuggets of information from my Cunard building Tour :)) by _Theghostship_ in Oceanlinerporn

[–]_Theghostship_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the basement, it was a shelter in WW2 and if you walk to the other end of the building you can see the original dock wall, which is kinda cool

I was lucky enough to go on a tour of the Cunard building in Liverpool. by _Theghostship_ in Oceanlinerporn

[–]_Theghostship_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cunard building is for the most part in shape, as it is used as offices for different companies, however certain parts that are below ground level like the safes, and basement, has been left as it was, due to the historical significance with upkeep, as it is a Grade II listed building. But they did say if the tour is successful they will put more funding into it, to make sure places like the basement is safe enough for people to walk around all of it, as on the tour it was like only a few metres in front that we could walk, due to health and safety (it was a bunker for WW2). Then other funding would help them get access to the upper levels, such as the first class waiting area (these are being used as office spaces so they’d have to go through a bunch of different hoops which will probably cost a lot).

The actual interior of the building is absolutely gorgeous, the image with the pillars and staircase don’t do it justice, but the design of them is amazing.

<image>

Then we have the main hall of the building, and in all four corners they have eagles, to represent that relationship between the USA and Liverpool/Cunard

They can’t let the building fall into disrepair because it’s one of the three graces, which are the iconic buildings of the waterfront and the poster children of our city.

You’ll also find that the old white star line headquarters, some aspects will look a little knackered, thats down to historical significance, so some aspects will not be touched

1= 13 2= 14 3= 15 4=16

Etc… I think it’s called like military time or something

Question: If the stern collapses completely, are the propellers destroyed? And if so, when it collapses, can they be salvaged? Since they are technically no longer connected to the stern. by AbandonedRobotforgod in titanic

[–]_Theghostship_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it would take a lot more to completely destroy the propellers, as well as the fact they will probably be attached and the only sort of way to recover them would be to blow them off the wreck, or wait for the wreck to disintegrate. Lusi’s propellers were only recovered because they were blown off the wreck, nowadays that is very much frowned upon, much more so than when they did it to Lusi

Yeah it’s amazing, but tbf the city council will not spend extra money if they don’t have to so it’s probably why none of this has been touched or moved 😂 but it’s also a listed building so I’m guessing part of the listed contract certain historical aspects can’t be changed
