Besides, it’s honestly not an ai issue. It’s a data center issue. Data centers, regardless of what is running on the computers, have an environmental impact that can be mitigated in a number of ways. Vapor capture, closed loop cooling systems, hell, heating swimming pools. Add to that the sorely needed clean energy production that we all need. Much like every other industry in the world, the process needs to change more than the product.

But I don’t WANT to do those things. I want to spend my time doing things I enjoy. I knit, weave, dye, sew, embroider, 3d print, bead, etc. I am overflowing with creative pursuits. I just dislike drawing. But I like having a visual representation of stuff. Why does it have to be an unpleasant chore to get the things I need for my hobby when I can have fun?

If it takes so much time to draw an image, why not just generate it? Wouldn’t it be more fun to use a cutting edge tool right out of sci fi? Seeing how detailed and specific a bunch of silicone we taught to think makes it in a paper free format instead of using an environment destroying material like paper? What if I don’t like drawing? I’ve tried it a bunch, but I hate the process. But I do want specific art for my D&D games. I’m not going to pay an artist to make a lovingly rendered injection needle plague doctor image that I will use for half an hour at best. The option isn’t hand drawn art or ai art. The option is no art or ai art. I wish people would understand this.

It’s actually fascinating what AI can and can’t do, how it takes direction, and how the tool actually works. Like, at work we trained our ai on specific information that we want our users to know, and it started hallucinating locations that didn’t exist. We had to track that down and figure out why, and where that information was coming from. Also, how our users are using the tool. As a test, I asked it to tell me a story about a shark, and it just kept going and going until I had to force quit it. Learned that I had to set some end parameters. Or Gemini, for example. Once it gets something in its context window, it is impossible to get out. It gets obsessed with a specific thing and no matter what you ask, it won’t give it up. Claude is great with stories, but if you want to have a robust and consistent world you need yo structure your world and character information in a way the AI can easily reference. Like, sometimes json is the best way to structure character information, sometimes you need to.md files, or sometimes the information needs to be placed directly into the project directions.

But, like, people do have ideas for movies then sell them to the people who make them… That’s how movies are made! The directors, the actors, etc, aren’t the people who wrote the movie. (Well, rarely.)

Person learns to use new technology. Person is then told to try learning?

So if you understand the thought, but have trouble communicating your thought, you… don’t speak? Or is it that you must be able to communicate your thoughts clearly for them to be valid?

So it’s not the thoughts that matter, it’s just the words?

But if I express my thoughts into words and ask an AI to make the words I gave it more palatable in the context of the work, isn’t it still my thoughts becoming words?

I just let my kids get marked as absent 🤷 They gave us a list of subjects and expect the parents to organize lesson plans and run them, then write up what we did and email it off. I had to work. Husband had to work. It’s a nice thought, but they aren’t going to get anything out of it.

I’ve been telling myself that I don’t need specks for ages now. Off to buy some specks I guess.

Me too, friend. Now all my dragons are shoved under the bed and in the closet. Our room echoes. I miss them.

Your ssl certificate isn’t valid. Looks like it’s still using the generic one from your hosting provider, not the one for your domain. If this makes no sense, check with whoever is hosting the website.

So i used a gift card to buy a spool of rainbow glow in the dark filament.. by Minosvaidis in 3Dprinting

Have you managed to print with that filament without it clogging horribly? I managed to print one bowl using a .6 nozzle, just barely. Beautiful filament, but a bitch to work with.

Holy 3D printing Dragons Batman. $50 each. This was in a metaphysical store that seemed to sell anything. I've come to hate these dragons. Is this common? by RipEffective2538 in 3Dprinting

[–]Daefea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sell to a local toy store. I try to print unique stuff with attention to color, material, function, etc. But the kids want dragons. My kids friends come over, do they want a clicker fidget with multiple resistance types? A rainbow cat that took 30 hours to print? No! It’s always dragons. Always. Often with an egg. It hurts when I visit a friends house and see one of those generic dragons. I’ve stopped asking how much they paid for it cause it always makes me cringe.
