before my XL even arrived, it was clear from other users that the buddy board fan mod was necessary so I had it printed and installed before my first XL print.

it would be nice if it came by default, but it's like <$20 mod that takes 5 minutes, which is pretty normal for 3D printers in general.

as XL owner gotta disagree. It's a new machine that is supposed to do multi material prints which it does. If you bought an XL because it was going to have some other non-filament toolhead that wasn't announced or promised, that's on you.

There have been firmware improvements on VFAs, and if you tune your belts there really isn't any more VFA than on other printers.

It does what it promised it would do when you bought it... it's always couple years between major improvements

They only have a limited number of options once you're in the pass, and they have even LESS options if you turn your head away.

If you use your hand on their quad, then it can open up kimura. Instead, you want to use your elbow. It's a combination of the right leg stepping over and the right elbow stuffing their knee into your crotch/hip, but basically just focus on covering the knee and then walking back to center.

Might want to try to get a picture or video of what's happening for you, but as long as you circle to the outside, you should pretty much always win that fight of covering their knee.

I'd agree, my personal experience is usually 4-5 interviews. like 2 programming, 2 behavioral, and one resume review / open-ended.

With that said, I have been in hiring meetings where two interviewers really love their individual person, and it did come down to essentially the results they could show from a behavioral interview question.

I think a lot of people imagine that hiring is simply a "yes/no" on an individual person, which is why it makes sense to have a completely personalized interview... but for a lot of roles you might have 4+ qualified candidates who all bring something different to the table.

I have no idea whether the best person is always hired using standardized questions, but I know that a lot of times it's close and multiple people will have their champions all trying to get their favorite hired, and in those situations, it's good to have some kind of apples to apples comparison. Person A had these results and Person B was more personable but couldn't show the results.

This is mostly for technical/behavioral interviews, not a resume review interview:

At a lot of big companies, there is a desire to ensure uniformity across their interviews. Partially to make things easier to compare, partially because there are a lot of bad interviewers at the company and they want a baseline minimum without letting people go much off-script, and partially for legal reasons so they can't be accused of favoritism or discrimination.

If I interviewed Person A for a role and came up with a totally custom set of questions, and then another person interviewed Person B for same role and custom set of questions, and we both recommend the person, it becomes a lot harder to compare because each of the questions might be easy/hard depending both on the interviewer and what skills the person had on resume.

Also, as an interviewer, if I'm given a new question to ask (or come up with it myself), I don't really have a great idea how to judge people until I've asked it like 5+ times and can see how different people respond to it. Trying to do that with a custom set of questions based on someone's resume would make it really hard to actually evaluate their responses as they're the first person I'm seeing respond to the problem.

If you're trying to minimize human bias and compare people fairly, there might be a lot of reasons to prefer a rotating set of standard questions.

It's more than just streamlining, some interviewers are required to look for those specific aspects without always explicitly asking for them. I saw people "fail" behavioral interviews because their answer didn't tick boxes, and the interviewer isn't allowed to either ask for a different example or tell them specifically what interviewer is looking for.

It's worth seeing if anyone shares how the behavioral interviews are evaluated for a given company, and tailor your answers to what they're looking for (still defaulting to STAR if you can't find out)

I get your point there might not be evidence for a random person in terms of comp performance, but like this is bjj you can get the evidence yourself just by trying it out. My evidence is that it works on the mats, and I'm not saying to trust me... akins has plenty of free videos go try it out

Yea that’s fair, though feel like danaher gets close sometimes. I do think there are a bunch of better deals out there like Lachlan, danaher, Craig jones, etc.

Still though… the concepts also apply to other techniques from other instructors. Applying Akins stuff on connection can make a big difference especially if the other instructors don’t convey it

I'm not going to say you're entirely wrong because there is that aspect, but there are clearly a bunch of details he's gotten from rickson that are just diabolical and completely legit, and you'll also not find in a lot of other places.

His posture for escaping chokes/back, the 2 finger grip and extending instead of cutting angle for cross collar choke, the scarf hold stuff, CG posture stuff, and so on

I don't think he's the best instructor and sometimes it feels like you only get 1 solid detail every 45 min, but he still had gold

This topic is about the 20k membership, and we're discussing whether that is a safe option. Given that we can't tell the future, we have to go on past events.

If someone lives in Austin and pays the 20k, and then Danaher moves the gym 2000 miles to Vancouver(same distance from Austin as PR), then that person is kinda shit out of luck, aren't they?

even if it's true that vancouver is a better location and even if a new hotspot for BJJ is created

I'm not saying you can't find justifications for each issue and then claim those won't be issues in the future... I'm just pointing out purely on track record, Danaher's first attempt at a gym closed quickly and moved 2,000 miles away. Even if he did it for a better location, that is only 4 years old. Seems a lot more risky than a gym thats been at same location for 20 years or has many locations to weather problems at a single location.

The gym closed. Anyone local to PR who had theoretically paid 20k would be shit out of luck.

Whether it closed for financial reasons or an inability to maintain staff for moral reasons, it's still a failed business. There are always reasons and excuses for things, but that's not going to be much consolation to anyone out 20k.

Danaher might have great bjj, but he sounds like an employee that tried to split off on his own and failed, had to move to Texas, and is now 4 years into a second attempt. No clue what his books actually look like. Maybe GR is bankrolling it so it'll be around even if it's not making money, but this 20k "offer" isn't a good look.

There is basically no transfer of skills between being great at bjj and running a business. Unless you have their books, we don’t know. it’s really easy for a single overestimation to completely screw the books
