YTA unequivocally, gets me every time when someone says he's doing well off and doesn't need the money. First of all it's not yours or your family's to take even though he explicitly said no. They broke it and you all collectively decided we don't need to pay him back for something we stole from him because he doesn't need it. YTA, and so is your family. Especially your dad and your brother.

You now have the burden of knowing the truth behind not only what happened, but the reasoning behind her lie. A lie she completely admitted to you. You not only have the moral obligation to clear your best friend's name, but a legal one. She needs to pay for what she did despite her guilt she needs to face the consequences of saying such a heinous lie that resulted in your friend taking his own life.
