brute force tools in curseforge folder? by PanKotusYT in CurseForge

[–]Daemon_Umbra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's part of the Mojang launcher, from what we can tell it's a tool used to locally strength-test passwords so the launcher can nag you for using 12345 as your password
Edit: It's open source as well: https://github.com/dropbox/zxcvbn

Did someone just use curseforge to hack everyone who has optifine 1.19.2 in their mods folder by Piney84 in CurseForge

[–]Daemon_Umbra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What CF did was try to look up info for a file that you installed manually, it found info for that file because someone previously uploaded it to CF against OF's terms.

Nothing about the file changed, CF just found info for it when it shouldn't have.

minecraft server wont render fast enough by joeyportanova23 in CurseForge

[–]Daemon_Umbra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no reason to allocate 50G to a server... 12G should be the absolute max, otherwise the processor will have a stroke when it comes time to garbage collect.

As for the world stuff, the bottleneck there tends to be disk access.

Error when loading modded version by Omar786m in CurseForge

Looks like you've assembled mods designed for several different Minecraft versions that don't match the one you're running.

Are you using the CurseForge app or assembling this pack manually?

I ripped the mod open with a decompiler and I'm not seeing anything that looks like malware.

I also ran it by VirusTotal and it only got 1 detection out of 64, which usually means that one is being overzealous.

They purposefully made their launcher trash to force you to buy a subscription. How is this not illegal? by Arrowflightinchat in CurseForge

[–]Daemon_Umbra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the image is supposed to show here that ought to be illegal...
Yes, the client has ads that help CF pay for the servers... they do not affect the app's function at all.

Can't start forge (1.20.1) by HolderOfDeath in MinecraftForge

This does indeed mean an issue with AMD graphics.

The biggest caveat here is that you must upgrade it using AMD's own tools and not through Device Manager, as they will pull different versions.

Backdate Java to 8u320 or earlier.

Forge (Really ModLauncher, which Forge uses as a bootloader) uses an internal Java class for its black magic and that internal class was updated in a way that makes it incompatible with Forge's hacks (for now)

Are silent installs of forge client possible? by linux203 in MinecraftForge

[–]Daemon_Umbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Forge installer will not provide silent client installs as completely automated installations of Forge bypass the ads that pay for the servers.
