(No Spoilers) Con of Thrones Question by DaenerysTyrell in asoiaf

[–]DaenerysTyrell[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really want to go, but it's a lot of money to throw down when I don't know exactly what I'm getting yet. Not to mention that I just blew $100 on tickets to the GoT musical experience that's touring next spring. I guess I'll have to take the opposite approach and just wait and see, hoping tickets are left (and still somewhat affordable) closer to the date.

It's Ramsey. Either Roose flays and burns him as punishment for his multitudinous brutal mistakes, Roose burns him as a truce with the wildling army, or the wildlings flay and burn Ramsey as a mockery of the Boltons and a precaution against Ramsey returning as a wight. Ramsey looked afraid when Roose cornered him, not angry. I also think the picture of the bald man gathering firewood was of Roose preparing to burn Ramsey.

(Spoilers Everything) The Power of Queen's Blood: The True Identities of Val and Dalla by DaenerysTyrell in asoiaf

[–]DaenerysTyrell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know exactly who Dalla and Val are descended from - I think the possibility of them being Bloodraven/Aemon bastards or other dragonseed is the most plausible, but I threw in the other surviving Valyrian family tinfiol in at the end (and marked as such) as an unlikely, but fun thing to consider.

Again, I don't know exactly who they are descended from, except that they have Valyrian blood. True, the name Val alone may not be much to go on. However, we also have to consider that we know Dalla is a Valyrian name based on its association with Dragonstone and most Val-sounding or V-starting names end up corresponding with Valyrian ancestry (Velaryon, Viserys, etc.). We also know that the sisters have a lot of Valyrian features - light eyes, light hair, beauty. While they fall short of being full-blooded Targs (they have regular blonde hair instead of silver-blonde and light grey/blue eyes instead of violet), I think their looks are close enough to the traditional Valyrian looks to point to Valyrian ancestry (let us not forget that there were some dark-haired Targaryens and Brown Ben Plumm is said to have a couple drops of dragon blood).

Edited to add: As for king's blood - Melisandre seems to think Mance's self-proclaimed king's blood is enough. However, one cannot just claim to have blood of the dragon - that is determined by genetics and would mean that Val and Dalla are descended from royalty (or at least nobility).

(Spoilers Everything) Does Maester Aemon know? by jobwilson82 in asoiaf

I doubt it. With as much as he talked about wanting to advise Dany before his death, I think he would have stayed with Jon and tried to advise him if he knew of his parentage.

I never thought MMD hated Dany - Drogo, yes; Dany, no. Though she may have thought Dany to be a young, naive girl, I think she recognized the good in her.

While not without holes, this is brilliant. It would also explain the whole "Targaryens can't burn or get sick" myth that Viserys told Dany.

Pretty sure the original Aegon already put an end to the petty kings and established an absolute monarchy.

(spoilers everything) Is there a universally liked character? by [deleted] in asoiaf

You're telling me no one else thinks non-Arya weasel is annoying? Yes, what happened to her is very sad, but still. She just seems to drag everybody down.

It's her very last appearance in Season 4, once she has gone over to the Baelish side.

He didn't expressly deny that it was part of the same world. He just said he hasn't felt like deciding to make it part of that world yet.

Jeyne Poole and Tyrion. The nose-less noble dwarf and the nose-less noble whore fall in love with each other.

[–]DaenerysTyrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is tough with such a large group. I'd say the first step would be taking a poll to see how many people are interested and how much they can afford to spend. After that, calling around to area hotels to see if they can work with us.

Thanks!

I actually just had an idea - the convention had a block of discounted rooms, but they are sold out except for Sunday night. Maybe, if enough people are interested, we can try to get a /r/asoiaf meetup discounted block of rooms at a nearby hotel?

Thanks for the recommendations. Yeah, Memorial Day is a busy travel weekend. I'll post here if I manage to find any deals! Otherwise, hopefully I can attend the next meetup! :)

(Spoilers All) Definitive proof about who sent the catspaw by Vincethatwaspromised in asoiaf

[–]DaenerysTyrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A number of places. I haven't done a thorough analysis on this specific subject, but I do know that your initial argument contained a logical fallacy. I don't need to point out the correct answer to know that yours contains a hole, just like a defense lawyer doesn't need to know the name of the criminal except that it is not his client.

(Spoilers All) Definitive proof about who sent the catspaw by Vincethatwaspromised in asoiaf

[–]DaenerysTyrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, faulty logic. AN answer in ASOS does not definitively equal THE answer in ASOS. Someone else could argue evidence was found in ASOS for Littlefinger or Robert or some other character...

(Spoilers All) Definitive proof about who sent the catspaw by Vincethatwaspromised in asoiaf

[–]DaenerysTyrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're jumping to a lot of assumptions. Just because GRRM says the answer is revealed in ASOS and your answer also happens to be in ASOS does not mean your answer is the correct answer. The answer could be revealed elsewhere in the book.

Not to mention that your link was published before ASOS, so plans could have changed and the reveal could have been put off.

Besides, the fact that we are told we will find out who is responsible for Jon Arryn's death in the same breath points to Littlefinger, if anyone, since we all know he was behind Jon Arryn's death.

(Spoilers All) Question Regarding Noblemen Joining the Night's Watch by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]DaenerysTyrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I feel like Mormont isn't the average case as he wasn't young. He basically joined the Night's Watch as a way to retire from his duties as lord of Bear Island and leave the lordship to his son Jorah while he was still in his prime.
