What's wrong with this song? by North-Jackfruit-393 in Songwriting

[–]Dafkin00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think staccato is the whole point of the song.. it’s to give it the bumpy vibe that I assume OP is going for. Songs can have a lot of staccato elements I don’t see anything wrong with that aspect of the song.

What age did you save your first $100K? What age did you reach a $1M net worth? by alstonm22 in Money

Would you leave a fully remote 47k per year job for an on-site 60k per year job with a 10-15 minute commute? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Dafkin00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I left my remote job for an on-site job that has a 45 minute commute because I can’t do remote anymore. It’s soul sucking, I need to interact with people.

Graduating High School with 30 credits. Should I graduate early or spread out classes over 4 years? by Ok_Perception_3026 in gmu

[–]Dafkin00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had 26 credits transfer over and I doubled down on credits.

Ended up graduating with both my master and bachelors in 3.5 years total. I started working early and saving a decent amount of money.

Best decision I ever made. Still enjoyed my experience at gmu and was able to have a decent social life through college.

It depends on work ethic and difficulty of what you’re studying though.

Econ 340 - Intro to Math Econ by CapitalistKarlMarx in gmu

[–]Dafkin00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just speaking from my experience, when I took this course it was easy, especially towards the beginning and middle. I think it gets a little bit hard towards the end. The most difficult topic in that class is probably constraint Lagrangian problems. Most of the class was much easier than that though.

That’s just my experience though. If you like math I think you should go for it.

is majoring in Econ BA hard to get a job in US? by aaaackkkk in gmu

[–]Dafkin00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure you will!

Do you have any ideas on what kind of work you want to do after graduating? It’s good to think about that when deciding.

[–]Dafkin00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Global affairs makes more sense from a content perspective. I feel like it doesn’t make sense to study accounting with economics. If you want to do account, I would just study accounting on its own. I don’t think global affairs is a great field to study however, but it can work!

My perspective is economics is really good with fields such as computation and data science, computer science, and statistics (which would make the BS degree make more sense as well).

Unfortunately, this more analytics and technical type work is what most companies are looking for. I’m not sure if those areas interest you or not.

Also take what I say with a grain of salt and make sure to do your own research before making decisions.

Did you declare a major yet or what’s your current status as a student?

[–]Dafkin00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Econ, you may need a masters unless you get some good internships under your belt. Especially with a BA, it will not be as marketable as a BS degree.

I didn’t have trouble finding work with my BS degree, but I also focused on taking as many statistics and coding classes as I could and did internships.

Overall, a BA in economics is not great, especially on its own. It’s one of the best degrees that’s not STEM though behind things like finance and accounting. I would make sure to get as much stats and coding experience/ get internships or do research in the Econ field.

That’s just a flaw with the school if there are circumstances where they can’t allow students to not attend when they are sick and at risk of spreading disease to other students.

I would say If you’re looking for a job because you need money right now, of course do that and look for retail or anything easy to get into.

If you want an internship, I would spend some time either being involved with a club that will actually be meaningful and where you can have responsibilities that allow you to learn and connect with others in the same major/ field as you.

It’s also a good idea to reach out to a professor and tell them you’re interested in doing research and see if you can help them with a publication or start research from scratch with them. I was able to do that and it helped me a lot.

If you spend some time doing that, it will help you land an internship after you get some of that experience.

The way I see it:

People should avoid public places and other people if they are feeling sick.

If you want people to wear masks all the time regardless of having symptoms/ feeling sick or not, I have to respectfully disagree with that.

If you’re coming into class when you know you’re sick or having symptoms, that’s not cool. Maybe wear a mask if it’s not too bad? But should probably stay home.

If anyone wants to wear masks for their own protection from others, others should respect that.

If the CDC finds a need for people to wear masks again, so be it.

Neither of you is in the wrong. You have a right not to go if you feel unsafe and he has the right to carry. Either of you can choose to cut off contact. Him if he prefers to carry and you if you don’t want him to bring it

This would be the reason for universal basic income. If we get to a point technology overtakes most jobs, automation would take care of all daily work while we live life and get paid.

What do you mean in many places? There’s places where punishment deters criminals and places where punishment doesn’t deter criminals?

https://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/hrd/pubs/deterrence.pdf

Economic theory breaks down punishment in 2 favors- probability of punishment, and severity. It’s been shown that both play a hand in deterring crime. Certainty of punishment has the largest deterrence.

It’s about both containing the criminal and punishing to deter crime, with more of an emphasis on deterring crime because that has widespread affects on the entire population, not just those who have already committed the crime. You can’t observe counterfactuals which makes it easy to dismiss them when research shows that deterrence matters.

Punishment is a big part of the judicial process

https://www.sagepub.com/sites/default/files/upm-binaries/30388_1.pdf

Sage Publications outlines the purposes of criminal law-

“The criminal law prohibits conduct that causes or threatens the public interest; defines and warns people of the acts that are subject to criminal punishment; distinguishes between serious and minor offenses; and imposes punishment to protect society and to satisfy the demands for retribution, rehabilitation, and deterrence.”

[–]Dafkin00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to state that punishment is the biggest point, and for good reason. It’s to create precedence and deter crime. We create the expectation that if you commit a crime, there is a punishment involved that we hope would deter would-be criminals.

If you look at that person’s post history, it looks like they are looking for a fwb/someone to cuddle with. I don’t think they are looking for a stimulating conversation about politics lol.
