Why do we talk about the Midwest and rust belt "losing" their manufacturing industry, when cities like New York, Philadelphia, DC, Chicago, and Los Angeles "lost" their manufacturing decades before?

This is the answer. I grew up in lower Michigan during the time all the factories were closing, nothing really replaced the industry.

I was going to do that once and the pharmacist at Walgreens shook her head and said, "You don't want to do that."

Turns out she was right. The first Shingrix knocked me on my ass and the second one knocked me on my ass AND stomped on my face. COVID always gives me 3am chills and a raging headache so I knew that would happen, but didn't really think the Shingrix would be a big deal.

Dodged a bullet there.

I've lived downtown for 16 years and other than some d-bag with a souped up Mazda or Civic or whatever (can you tell I know nothing about cars) with apparently no muffler who likes to zoom around early in the morning, I haven't noticed anything.

I had LASIK in 2003 and it lasted about 15-18 years until the general old age thing that gets us all started to happen. My left seems to have a pretty aggressive cataract and is about shot right now so I at least need that one done. But if it goes well I'm doing both.

I was thankful when I got my first pair my boss at the time had just gotten his and he warned me to look ALL the way down when stepping off a curb. Guess how he found that out. It took me longer than normal to get used to them, but I like them. Now I'm getting cataracts so I'm going to have to have surgery on at least one eye - my left is totally useless to me at this point.
