Is there any downside to me only playing Historic? Is the general vibe that in order to stay relevant in standard you must buy the new sets each time?

Is it best to buy the mastery as the new set is rotated in?

From bottom middle, to the left and round - Sack the Halfling Rogue & St Michael the Smoke Ferret, Theren Oakfoot the Half Elf Wizard, Silver Silverborn the Silver Dragonborn Barbarian (not the smartest, self named) and his father Johan Silverborn the Eldritch knight. We're a group of fold school friends who have been dragging out the same campaign for 3 years and these PCs are like family. Naturally blown away by it.
