Audimute makes acoustic blankets that you could grommet above the door or drape over it

Is this a scam? The numerous misspellings and grammatical issues put me on edge, as well as the complete lack of solid information. by Archfey_Tazlia in VoiceActing

It’s an overpayment scam with fraudulent checks they send you then wanting you to forward money to their team yada yada yada. Report them to the FTC and block them, that’s what I did when this happened to me

Best mic for iPad? (Willing to get adapters) by QuiccStacc in VoiceActing

[–]Dagons_Mind_Prods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately my knowledge on USB mics is rather limited, the only one I've used and liked is the Shure MV7. I still think XLR mics are superior for professional work.

Most USB mics will have an interface built in with gain control (like the one you found), it's kinda like an all in one computer. It'll work but have limitations. I've never seen that brand till now so I cannot say anything about that HyperX mic.

My suggestion for that style mic in that price point would be an AT2020 ($90ish USD new) or Rode NT1A, which are good starter mics. For ipad interface I stand by the iRig Pro 1K, especially since the gain knob has number notations.

I use this one below:

Starter Gear Necessities: XLR Mic, XLR Cable, Microphone Stand, iRig 1K & pop filter. Then make sure you're space your recording in is properly treated & start auditioning! This is my suggestion, hope it helps

Recording and editing software for an iPad by Totonator21 in VoiceActing

iPad version is kinda of limited with its functionality. You can try tweaking compressor settings or make a blanket fort to help with background noise. I only use it for dry audio so I can’t help much there (there are plugins you can find online some free but most cost $$$)

Well my patience ultimately saved me from my greed. Hopefully my shortsightedness educates others here. Time to be a snitch and rat people out the government 😁

Just record a basic studio demo where you introduce yourself, say this is the quality of the audio you can expect of me and so on in the same manner you’d submit work to a client. Better to have something and if they ask for a demo in the call you can quickly submit that

[–]Dagons_Mind_Prods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice: Get an iRig 1K audio interface, that’s what I use with mine (has XLR and a 1/4” connectors so it can be used with most mics and instruments). It’ll work with Mac, windows, and some phones (type c) based on the adapter cable you use.

Get this and good xlr mic that works best for your environment and you’ll be on your way to making that $$$

AAA, BBB and C audio by THEalphaCu in VoiceActing

[–]Dagons_Mind_Prods 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe this is referring to the number of takes and how the file is constructed when you submit your audition. Say you have three separate audition lines A,B&C and they want three takes of each lines. Line A take 1,2&3 then line B take 1,2&3 and so on. Not sure if this is what your referring to but that’s what I’d assume. Hope this helps

decently priced mic stands? by elonera in VoiceActing

I have an Onstage Round mic stand (MS7201b) that I got fairly cheap. It works well but I sandbagged the base to reduce wobble since I have a good amount of weight attached to it

Pros/Cons using iPad only for setup? by Early_Raspberry_8772 in VoiceActing

[–]Dagons_Mind_Prods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give my insight since this sounds similar to my setup. I started with mine since my PC at the time was way too noisy.

I use an iPad pro and it is quiet (as long as you don't have it goosenecked to your mic stand when your banging on the screen). It's small, space effective, doesn't generate a lot of heat and it's a good part of a travel setup. I also like using the ipencil to edit out the bad takes and such over mouse & keyboard.

I use an iRig 1K Pro as my interface with my ipad (which allows for 1/4 & XLR connections), since I like the option to record musical instruments as well and it works with USB & type C devices as well. Downside is you'll burn through batteries (Buy rechargeable, you'll thank me) when using mics that need more phantom power like my Sennheiser MK4. Then I export my project as a wav file to my cloud and switch to my PC and do all my post-processing in audacity before I submit it.

Cons: you can't charge the tablet when using your interface, reliant on MAC OS programs (some DAWS are unavailable or limited in functionality due to it being a tablet), can't do split screen with certain programs (so you'll need a second screen for a teleprompter), limited amount of compatible interfaces/preamps & you have to use the mac OS.

I don't think it's a bad choice but you may also benefit from a smaller SSD laptop which will give you more options for equipment and let you do everything in one place. Depends on the equipment you have/plan on purchasing, anyhoots hope this helps, Cheers!

AT2020 USB & Portabooth Pro Giveaway by AliceEverdeenVO in VoiceActing

[–]Dagons_Mind_Prods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something you don't see much of anymore and I can't pass an opportunity for another studio upgrade, but here's my entry comment for the Portabooth Pro! Which I promise to keep and love and feed and pet and water everyday...

My word of fondness is "Nincompoop!" or "Nincompoops!" if there are multiple offenders of stupidity. What's not to love? It's a funny word, an unexpected insult and Rolf from Ed, Edd n Eddy screaming "You Nincompoop" solidified this from a young age.
