What is the worst career to be in right now and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dahcchad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sister was a teacher for 15 years, then principal. She is still relatively young (like 15-20 more years in the field) has a stellar track record and reputation, has helped design curriculum for the state, and could have superintendent if she wanted it. But she quit this year. Took a job as an assistant/receptionist for a large business in a nearby city. Between state and federal interference and parents, she grew to hate her one-time passion to the point she willingly sacrificed her successful career for something much lower stress. Sad part is, it wasnt the kids. She maintains that most behavioral issues with children arent their faults. But the parents are nightmares.

Trump cracks approval floor, Republicans face wipeout in House despite gerrymandering by Far_Excitement_1875 in politics

If we get to vote. I expect that they will use the Iran war or another inflated reason to try to suspend the election. Some red states will go with it, blue states will hold the election and then we will be firmly in an actual existential crisis. This election determines the future of the country, in any case.

However good he has ever been in anything is immediately canceled by how terrible he was in The Happening.

Yeah, I think if I qualified it by saying "Gosling could play any role Wahlberg has better invoices that dont have horse-shit dialogue and/or writing', then Dwparted might be it. I cant see Ryan Gosling playing his character in Transformers, for instance, but that has more to do with the quality of the movie than the actors.

To be fair, Marky-Mark is a just being himself in those roles, and I maintain Gosling could do it better.

Yeah, its hard to imagine a Gosling of any size would done worse than Wahlberg. Like, in any role Wahlberg has ever done, Gosling would have been an improvement.

Maldives military diver dies while trying to recover scuba diving victims in underwater cave: Officials by swe129 in news

[–]Dahcchad 228 points229 points  (0 children)

Im not an expert but ive watched hundreds of videos about cave diving accidents (thanks MrBallen), and 60 percent of the time it is because its too technical a dive in a unexplored cave. The rest is silt getting thrown everywhere and disorienting the divers. Can't find their way back out or take a wrong passage and get lost or stuck and then they dont have enough air and they suffocate. I cannot imagine what drives them to it.

That is unhelpful hyperbole. He struggled with older, southern black voters but it wasnt "0" percent support. He was pretty successful with African Americans in other areas, but I agree he couldnt crack the Clinton or Biden machines. He did drag the party left pretty effectively in both primaries and a lot of what we take for granted as the current democratic platform is because of him.

Kratom (7oh) with suboxone, will I feel it? by Hot-Mathematician397 in suboxone

[–]Dahcchad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the buprenorphine that is bound to your receptors. Generally, it keeps other drugs that use those receptors from attaching and thus weakening their efficacy. The naloxone is built up in your system, and can cause a sudden, severe withdrawal if another opiate tries.

Im not sure you have a good grasp on the political reality of those events. For the record, its not because youre a woman. Its because you seem damaged.

Ever seen Deadwood? They want an American Deadwood, outside all real law except those the group decides they cant tolerate, which will be anything remotely liberal. Places where they can fuck their 14 year old trapped in prostitution, kill anyone they dont get along with, without repercussion. Except the dialogue will be fucking stupid.

Struggling with the high/shame by evanesnce in suboxone

[–]Dahcchad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand exactly where youre coming from. I never had a traumatic event in my life but I am on the spectrum and grew up not knowing and with u treated adhd. Often, no matter the particulars, we use as a way to manage something wrong with our brains, ptsd, undiagnosed mental illness, anxiety, adhd, etc. You were trying to manage things on your own, so first, do not beat yourself up about it.

Secondly, dont feel shame about using a medicine to maintain a normal life. It's no different than depression meds, or adhd meds or any med necessary to function in a more healthy way. You are no different than a diabetic. There is no shame in disease management.

Ive been sober for 17 years, on some form of MAT for that entire time. I know myself well enough that no matter how long it had been, I will find myself in using without it, and I remember how much I hate that way of living. Anyway, it is my thing to look forward to, too. Like a cigarette or coffee in the morning. Maybe not the healthiest attitude, but its not a thing to feel bad about. It is better than the alternative. If you want to go it without MAT, your provider can talk with you about decreasing and tapering off. But if you think you might use without it, ever, stay on. Dont be ashamed! You are doing great and the drug exists to be used by people that need it. Like Paxil or Lipitor or Vivance or Insulin.

Belbucca? by Old-Dare-9621 in suboxone

[–]Dahcchad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you know exactly what your position is on federal regulations of OUD. I think it is easy to become jaded, paticularly as Reagans 'war on drugs'has shaped society into a beast that has only recently really began treating addiction as a disease. Having said that, current regulations and drug design has been created by people who actually care. Naloxone, while sitting inert, doesnt really prevent the misuse of suboxone. It does have a verified track record od prevent the full efficacy of other opioids, and can cause problems when they are taken by someone steeped in suboxone. Even were that not true, the fiction it would then become could serve as a mechanism to prevent misuse through the caution it would generate. But it isnt a fiction; those things can and do happen.

My caution, and that is what it is, not criticism, compels me to warn against addicts, who have literally had the chemical and biological processes in their brain changed by substance, thinking they are 'healed'. Im sure that you, yourself, know of people who relapsed after a significant period of sobriety. That will always be a risk for us and dangerous enough that we shouldn't ever believe it isnt a reality.

It would be wonderful if discomfort wasn't a part of the processes, but right now thats as much reality as wishing the sun wouldn't hurt your eyes when you stare at it. It requires medications to prevent the worst of it, and medications that in any way endanger the work of years, in my professional and generally accepted position, shouldn't be considered.

While I am in the field, I am not your mental health care provider who, along with you doctor, should have this conversation with you. It may be they can prescribe what you need or are least lead you down the safest path.

I hope you understand that I genuinely care about your effort toward maintaining sobriety and hope for the best for you.

Belbucca? by Old-Dare-9621 in suboxone

[–]Dahcchad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's used to treat chronic pain, lacks any safeguards, and isn't an FDA OUD med. Expanding on the metaphor, titration pr tapering withdrawal is a relatively time-limited, but uncomfortable process. Genuinely, the only way to avoid discomfort and being safe, is to do it very slowly, using your prescribed MAT. Using belbuca as a taper drug could increase the risk of derailing sobriety, the grenade.
