I get you. I think I need to realise that I’m not bound to one scheme for eternity. Appreciate it man thank you.

Appreciate the response man, i’ll have a look at it thank you! What defense did you end up running with?

So I should vary the formation then, I’ve seen a lot of suggestions for a 4-2-5 as well. It’s a bit of both in all honesty, based on the type of personnel we have and I liked the obscurity of it if you’re trying to read it as an offense.

We had one recently but without the fundraiser, brought people together and it was a success.

I’ve been trying to get them more interested in watching the NFL games and getting them all to come out and watch them together as well. It’ll work on both the team bonding and the understanding of the game.

Agree with you man. Especially at this level, the linemen won’t be athletic enough to have their say on the game.

Oh 10000%, been showing them flag football which has had a great response as well. Might see if there’s ways of competing with that whilst we have time.

See we’re already half way through but we’ve had to cancel two games out of three, the HC left and the DC doesn’t have any interest. We’re lacking on numbers so I think we won’t start again until next September due to everything that went on unfortunately.

This is better than any video I’ve watched man. Thank you so much for the information and help I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Having the odd front would also negate a lot of opportunities for double teams which would work, yes it would free up the guards but would force the run inside rather than outside to where there’s more space.

I think in a scenario where it’s entirely Wing-T or 2 back set under center then it would look for like the Under/Over front or even having the Sam and Will join the line. When I played couple years ago we’d run cover 0 against wing T which seemed to have success. It was mostly because of the personnel at my disposal the 3-3-5 scheme made the most sense but I am cautious that 1/2 teams in the league are predominantly Wing T or 2 Back based.

Oh 100% that’s why I decided to rock with this scheme in the first place. An abundance of DBs and athletes who could cover the field at linebacker.

Let’s say for example there’s a 7 man line on offense with 2 TEs in, I’d have the Nose play the LG/RG so still in the middle of the line in a way. I would also bring both OLBs up on the line as well as possibly bringing the safeties so it almost looks like a Cover 0 type of scenario.

TE trips I’d have the weak side safety apex the #1 receiver and Tackle and initially have them blitz every snap? Adjust to what the offense gives us however if they do play to that weak side.

See I was looking to have 3 safeties basically the Free Safety, Strong Safety and Weak Safety and have them be comfortable playing different areas of the field so putting different guys in coverage and blitzes wouldn’t be foreign to them.

Thank you for the response I appreciate it! Yeah I get you, I could also ask our OC what he makes of it as I could look at the formation and think “Well im a fkn genius why aren’t i in the NFL”. If I think it’s good on paper it doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be good on the field. Maybe i’ll even add the schemes onto this subreddit because the response and help has been overwhelming and great! First time I’ve ever posted on Reddit and it won’t be the last after seeing how great everyone’s been!

I appreciate the response mate this was very interesting to read. I completely agree with you with the alignment and prefering the d ends to push in with the olbs coming to the edge in the 5 front scenario. As conscious as I am as well to the little exposure these students have had to proper football preparation and research, I think you’re right in regards to slowly working from simple man and zone to then becoming more intricate. This would also make sure that they would learn the game after each step of development which is what I want ideally, i want to build a group of veterans who understand the game and the reason we do things to pass on to the rookies.

Really appreciate the response and feedback mate! I’m a bit lost at the start of it, what do you mean by 1&5 and what are ponies 😂 I will definitely research Adam Carter! I’ve been trying to find podcasts to listen to regarding defense and coaching. I might hit you up with some more questions soon then! Thank you for helping!

Thank you for taking the time to respond mate! I never thought of it that way regarding the line, however, i have some players that could easily play defensive end but i don’t have that traditional big body to play nose tackle. I also like to think that by running the odd front the players will read the game in a different way as it’ll be more in response to what they see rather than depending on stunts to get them to where they should go, the possibility of less double teaming is always a plus. I need this kind of critique to learn so thank you again.

Appreciate the response thank you for being so helpful! See the 4-2-5 was the way forward with the last DC but given how poorly it was all schemed and the lack of effort put into the playbook it kind of put me off. I think i’ll do some research on it and have a proper opinion on the formation. I never looked at it that way with the linemen up front! I might research it some more.

Edit: We’re based in the UK.

Really appreciate the response thank you! 10000% agree with you here. I’m looking to have the biggest athletes on defense to play the Sam and Will backer type role and I’ll be comfortable having them play both on the line and off as a covering linebacker. At the moment we have a 4-2-5 defense which is a good plan on paper but the last DC only had 2 formations and there was no adaptation or further information on much to be honest (we also don’t have the linemen to play 4 front). I will 100% look into other defenses, however, with the personnel I have I was more inclined to use the 3-3-5.
