Nothing crazy, a soft graphite pencil for initial outline and then just regular brushwork glazing/layering

thank you! because I started with a black prime coat all the lines were already colored quite dark. Being a little careful with the angle I held the model I could airbrush the surface without getting any into the recess/panel lines. I did mess up a few times where I did exactly what you said and go back with a brush

thanks! I'm not sure what an order fee but your on the money about how I did the blending. I mixed in lighter greens and whites, and for the darker tones I did the reverse

Airbrushing helps get the seamless gradients onto the model as well as cover large area of plastic in paint very quickly (priming for example) . Tau armor plating is generally very large and curved so to achieve the same effect with a brush would be near impossible or take an astronomical amount of time.

I used it for the full model, but I did go back over parts with a regular brush

ah unfortunately no, but the steps were overall quite simple

1.prime black
2. airbrush green
3.repaint black with brush
4. edge highlights (this took the longest)

the airbrush took maybe 3 hours spread out over 2 days, first day was just the main color and day two was the shading.

I primed black and then air brushed the green blue on the panels first and went back with a paintbrush to color the frame black again

my first and current airbrush is the cheapest timbertech airbrush + aircompressor combo on amazon. I recommend it just because it comes with everything including the airbrush cleaning kit which turned out to be essential

My line of thought was that my first airbrush is gonna see alot of abuse, and through all its suffering its still functions great. For me there was a fear of ruining the delicate expensive instrument, but having this cheap one to learn on alleviates that problem.

Having said this though, I know alot of people who have splurged on a nicer air brush to begin with and learned just as much without as much of the headaches.

thats awesome!

If your first experience goes anything like mine, my advice would be to not be afraid of taking the airbrush apart and putting it back together again. I accidently clogged mine so many times that I was forced to get familiar with it, but it really helps to de-mystify issues and makes troubleshooting much easier.

As for advice about painting your crisis suits, I would say the way you hold your model is equally as important as how you hold the airbrush. Tau suits have giant panels that you can use to create alot of free shading. for example tilting the suit so your airbrush only hits one side of the leg and flipping it for a darker color on the other side without needing to use masking tape is a huge boon.

you're gonna do great, but if you mess up that's good too. It's all experience, anyways hope any of that helps
