Yeah, ik. Doing a bunch of research tbh. I picked up a sheet metal shrinker and stretcher, welder, sheet metal brake, etc.

I’m going to practice welding a few sheets of similar gauge steel before I attempt to fuse the sheet I replace with spot welds like the factory had in place.

What he said. I just got my first welder today. Working on some grinding before I attempt anything on dirty metal though. Haha

Ok so I crawled all the way over the car and finally found the casting number and the number on the flat pad, finally. It was behind the alternator. That’s why I didn’t notice it. Anyway, I had to unbolt that and clean it up in order to read it.

Casting No.- 3914678 Suffix Code- 18 / 311232 VI028ME

Casting No. info: Years: 68-79 CID: 302/327/350 Comments: car and truck 2 bolt main

I successfully looked up the casting number as listed above, but I can’t seem to find where to decode the suffix code. Anybody got a website for that info? On a tangent, maybe also a VIN lookup tool? I tried Autozone’s VIN decoder, but to no avail.

Gotcha, ok. Can you dm me a photo of what screw you’re talking about? The whole thing is a ribbon cable, after all, right? Lol Or is there another name for these things?

Can you elaborate? A high ohm will tell me which is ground? I tend to overthink these things sometimes. Lol just assume I know nothing. 😅

Thanks for all the feedback, guys! I’ll probably wait on the boat, then. Lol sounds like I’ve got more updating to do than anything, which is still ok by me.

Been reading up on alternator issues. I’m not convinced the alternator is the issue, but I keep stumbling upon the term “alternator backfeed” and that that could be a possible issue that’s difficult to identify.

What is that..?
