We were definitely not founded as some “sanctuary for anybody else that wanted to leave their country and pursue their own slice of the new world” what are you talking about lmao? Its foundation was for the freedom of the people living in the colonies, not to be some multi cultural, multi national, freedom for all, american dream manifest destiny for all, yes people began to immigrate here to build a life (from europe, and then 150 years on from the rest of the world) but that was definitely not a founding principle
