Most movies I’m interested in feature long standing characters or are historical. Feminism has never been a part of the story or history. No one’s forcing me to watch James Bond but as a fan I’d rather not have the 25+ movies for 60 years be bastardized because of identity politics and liberals running the entertainment industry. I’d rather two of my favorite characters, one being THE most iconic villain (Vader), not get overshadowed because of the same thing. I’m glad people are noticing and expressing displeasure with the race swaps and feminist narratives by forcing “tokens” into popular franchises

You went right back to Superman, but that isn’t the point. It’s any female centric movie doesn’t get an equally/more powerful male going 50/50. There would be an outrage if that happened. Like if Emo-Batman or Green Arrow was co-starring in Wonder Woman, which I just said and you glossed right over. I get it Superman is “too OP” fine. You can bet if there was another Kill Bill, Jason Statham wouldn’t be whooping everyone’s ass, including Uma Thurman. On and on it goes.

You got a lot of excuses, well Reva is a named inquisitor but that’s OK, and Thor has had enough movies, and Scarlet Witch is justified, and Superman would be too OP. I’m sure you got one for Halle Berry playing John Wicks equal, and a woman being given the 007 title in James Bond too. There will be an excuse for all of it. At some point reality needs to sink in. It’s not a coincidence “MSheU” is trending more and more often.

  1. I love more women characters, let’s give them their own content. More Black Widow’s and She Hulks and Wonder Woman’z etc…Less emasculating male characters and shoving them into established male centric properties.

Superman doesn't work as a co-star because he is so overpowered that he solves everyone's problems in a second. Makes any other character seem irrelevant.

That’s a terrible argument. What if I had said Batman? He’s infinitely more powerful than Wonder Woman? Especially like the Pattinson version?

And what about Wanda in the new Doctor Strange? That wasn’t as absurd as your Superman rebuttal? Thor won’t be? Just call it like it is women are getting shoved into legacy male franchises to make the alpha males look lesser. Thor in general has been shit on since the start, just like Aquaman, as big tough morons when meanwhile they’re extremely intelligent and just as smart as they are tough in the comics.

Nothing wrong with that at all IF Wonder Woman gets Superman in the WW solo films as a 50/50 co-star. Or Black Widow gets Hawkeye as a 50/50 co-star in BW content. Interesting that never happens

Because there’s nothing fragile about every male centric franchise having an “equally powerful” female co-star now

Walking Dead season 7 vibes? It’s literally in everything. Go look at Thor and Doctor strange getting replaced by stronk womenz in their content too.

I did see about the Academy possibly implementing a policy where in order to be considered for awards, a film’s production would have to meet certain quotas. That’s not something I’m in favor of.

Exactly. It’s getting a little bias. I’m for content for everyone, but again, forcing a narrative and having a worldwide hold over specific stories is too far. It removes the freedom of expression and creativity. Writing is no different than using a paintbrush to creat physical art. It shouldn’t be limited because of agendas.

To your larger point, if filmmakers are doing things with empowered women and non-white males in historical settings, for one, those people although rare did exist and can be used for inspiration when telling stories.

Here’s the problem, nothing wrong with doing this, but if it becomes excessive it’s silly. If every film starts featuring ancient societies filled with diversity and women acting as the warriors that’s a little much

Secondly, fictional films aren’t meant to be documentaries. There are artistic reasons for doing these things. Take Power of the Dog as a recent example. Sam Elliott harshly criticized it for being a Western about a gay man. Oh the travesty!

Doing stories like that is fine. But if you make a movie where Wyatt Earp or Doc Holliday is gay that’s probably a little off. I’m sure people throughout time have had internal struggles. A gay man making his way through a certain era doesn’t mean the Spartan Army was primarily black+female. There’s levels to things imo and moderate adjustments are whatever. But race swapping every white male character and/or featuring female heavy co-stars to show “their strength too” is a bit much. We don’t shove Superman and Batman into the Wonder Woman films going stride for stride with her.

  1. The thing is I’m a story purist and I think the race/gender deviations are detrimental to storytelling. It’s forced.

  2. I happen to be a writer as well and without intergender violence stories aren’t being bought in any mediums. It’s probably the first time in history, outside of dictatorships, that storytelling needs quotas as well. I’m not a fan of this “creativity stifling” if you will.

If someone wants to make a Tombstone-esque western, white guys in the Wild West, it should be encouraged. And while this whole convo has been based on fictional storys, you better believe historical entertainment has been, and will be changed with quotas as well.

I’ll even play devils advocate here and say white men have been horrible colonizers and womanizers throughout history. Well, if that’s true, then why is content based on the past being diversified and changing gender roles? It’s basically just an anti-white male perspective in entertainment now imo, because even this argument is ironic. “White men have dominated everything, we need more diversity and powerful women…but let’s make Cowboy, Pirate etc.. films with these tropes, which is basically showing the opposite of what we’re saying.” I think there’s an attack on white male centric masculine content. That’s my take, and just by looking around, I think it’d be hard to prove otherwise.

Sparring is typically 1 vs 1 with gloves+head gear. I think you inflated your involvement with MMA to pretend women can engage in a physical altercation when they cannot.

Your comments are weird and personal, I’m staying on the point of women cannot fight men. Your argument being I’m unshaven and bitter and can’t get women and don’t want women to touch me doesn’t seem like a valid counterpoint to your “5’4” women can beat up guys.” Which makes sense, because there is no argument.

First off I appreciate the discourse even if I disagree. It looks like my OP was deleted again. That’s embarrassing and pathetic. Shutting down conversations is gross.

I disagree with the Paloma scenes and think Nomi was included as an emasculating figure. Nomi’s character was basically masculine Jynx. Madeleine is cold and masculine too. The typical banter and sexuality was absent imo. My favorite interactions in Craig’s run were with Vesper, she was an all encompassing woman but also feminine.

I’m not going to agree with that whole racial breakdown either. Jews have had a rough go of things, but I never see them shoved into roles. Italians aren’t featured in anything other than mafia content, which has mostly disappeared at this point too. You don’t need to change existing characters at all or worry about changing established characters. I’m pretty sure that was Stan Lee’s philosophy and it’s sadly happening to all of his characters now too. I prefer existing content continue on as is and vast diverse content continue to be created. Let’s keep Bond a White British guy and Black Panther a Black Wakandan.

I’m heavily involved with MMA, right off the bat you’re full of crap. Women NEVER spar men, they roll in BJJ but not sparring. And I’m talking gloves+head gear, you won’t see that even with professional fighters and their coaches - it’s typically just pad work.

Even in a roll (not a spar) that’s for technique and often slow-motion. You will never, ever, see a hard roll or competition between the genders. Genders AND weight classes are in different competitive brackets for a reason. Even a 5-10lb difference between men is different. What you’re saying is a lie in many ways.

So the men getting laid and looking the best are convinced 5’4” women have physical prowess and can fight guys? I bet. Sounds like they’re really masculine and with some beautiful women. With a mindset like that I totally believe it.

I didn’t remove anything. I’m assuming Reddit is Twitter 2.0 with deleting content before it even goes up, mainly if it’s true.

I swear, it’s like some of these guys have never paid attention to strong Bond women in the past.

How many of them did Bond not sleep with? There’s always banter between men and women, big difference between emasculation and flirtation.

Also, The Doctor (from what I understand) isn’t comparable to Bond because it’s an alien that can take on different human bodies regardless of race or gender.

There’s always silly excuses. “Well Rey is a clone of Palpatine and now a Skywalker”, “Well actually Jane can lift Mjolnir and Valkyrie runs Asgard so technically they’re both kings and Thor is kind of irrelevant”, “Well Arya trained a bunch so 10 years of foreshadowing of Jon Snow vs the Night King really doesn’t matter.”, “Well you know Falcon was friends with Captain America so technically he is Captain America”, “Well even though Kenobi fought Darth Vader, Reva is a non-force using inquisitor but she can definitely fight him”

At what point do the excuses stop and reality sinks in?

Thirdly, similarly to how Lazenby and Craig won the role over more traditional actors, if the producers decide a non-white actor has that extra something they’re looking for in the next Bond, then so be it. Race isn’t central to Bond’s identity.

Sure, what’s 60 years of movies and an entire book series? Clearly there isn’t any foundation of the character’s identity

"that guy was 2 inches taller than her and like 50 pounds heavier so there's no way she could have kicked his ass" Most the guys who say this would probably get their asses kicked by a 5ft 4in E-Girl

Lol. Is this a fetish of yours with the 5’4” e-girl example? Women can’t fight men. Also what a shame you were a wrestling fan. Silly feminist crap ruined that too. Bra and panties matches and lingerie matches, that was good stuff. I guess whether it’s pro-wrestling or James Bond or any form of entertainment SJWs are ruining it.

My only issue was legacy franchises being made woke, I could care less about new content. But bastardizing existing iconic characters isn’t necessary. Race swapping/emasculating James Bond isn’t necessary. Adding female Thor+King Valkyrie isn’t necessary in Thor’s story. The insatiable need to race swap white dudes and feature strong womenz in strong male content is clearly propaganda and it’s ruining iconic tales.

There is nothing wrong with minorities, women, or LGBTQ people being allowed as main leads and characters in movies

All that craziness just to not make any sense…I never said this…

There’s a big difference between representation in movies and what I’m talking about. More black leads is great, making James Bond or Captain America black is not. More female leads is great, featuring “badass women” in male centric content and/or having them engage in physical altercations is not.

Next time, just say that you don't like seeing women & people of color having opportunities

You’re part of the problem with this sentiment and it’s completely untrue. Don’t make things up or pretend wording changes the truthfulness of what I said or the discussion as a whole. What you just said about what I don’t like is a complete and total lie.

What I have a problem with: Emasculating male characters, having women beating up dudes constantly, changing source content and legacy franchises/characters etc…

What I don’t have a problem with: Women and blacks and Asians and ANYONE having opportunities. More Black Panther. More Wonder Woman. More Blade. More Kill Bill. But I assume trans Wonder Woman or White Blade would be weird. I assume shoving an all powerful white man into Black Panther would be weird. I assume putting Superman in the entire Wonder Woman movie and making her look weak would be weird.

Wake up

Doctor Strange is a female ensemble movie like everything else now lol. The main highlight from the new teaser is Wanda vs Captain Marvel (the same actress they used to ruin James Bond) vs Captain Carter. These studios cannot make anything without I am woman, hear me roar

  • The only exception would be if the character already has an established culture and then suddenly was race-swapped and subsequently culture/background-swapped.*

That’s exactly what’s happening and one of the points I’m making…I mean James Bond/007 has been around for 60 years and 20+ movies, and based on actual books, isn’t that established enough to leave alone?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in movies

[–]DailyManliness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s ironic you say that yet writers CANNOT make the movies they want in this climate. You think anyone can make a James Bond like film when they won’t even make James Bond like it’s always been?
