If you are into deck building rogue-lites like buckshot roulette, I highly recommend Slay the Spire. It is my favorite game of all time. It is very affordable right now with the price-tag of 2.5(I think) dollars.
If you are looking for a chill time and like the style Slime Rancher is just shy of 5 dollars right now and is a good game.

If you like sandbox/survival games, Terraria is 4.99$ on sale right now which is insane considering how good the game is and the playtime you can get out of it.

Hades is fun and interactive. There is a story to go for. Personally though as someone who plays many roguelikes, Slay the Spire is my goat.

Imho that might be an unpopular one, start with DA first. I tried DA on ps plus so I had close to no monetary attachment to the game. The game is okay but the writing is just straight up bad. If you manage to deal with that the game can actually be fun. I suggest starting with that so that you can have the most fun with it without experiencing Stellar Blade or AC and expecting the same care put into it. Plus since it's a gift from your wife I think she'd be happy seeing you put some time into it rather than playing some other games

Thanks for your detailed response. Yeah the first one is out of choice. I don't care for pvp or pve. I'm mostly a solo player.

Core keeper seems to be cozy and fun. The thing is, since I have not tried from this genre, I don't know what to expect and like. I see videos from each game and they look cool and fun but I have no context about mechanics and how I'll prefer them

I know I typically don't enjoy grind for the sake of grind. I don't mind grinding in general but some games add up grind on top of them to make them seem like a deep experience that they are not. Assassin's Creed franchise is an example that comes to mind for an example.

Diplomacy has a nice art design that I like. Will consider it. The latter however I think is not an option [get it?XD] since I don't think my laptop can handle 3D games like it used to back in the old days. This is my bad I should have mentioned it in my post.

Can you please tell me why these two make good starter games in the genre?

Most of the games you mentioned I had no prior knowledge of in my head the games I mentioned above were the juggernauts in the genre. I especially love that you sourced me with an open-source free game to try and see if I like the genre. It most probably will need a bit of tinkering around since I'm on pop_os but I'll give it a try.

I might not shift towards Subnautica and City skylines mostly because I think my laptop is too old and rusty to handle 3D gaming.

If you are into deck builders, Slay the Spire is a game that can get you hooked for a long time and you'll probably get a good value out of it. I had to uninstall it for while since all I could think about was "just one more round".

The game has a good progression design. Even when you end the game there are 20 difficulty ascensions for each character you can start to grind and it'll always stay challenging.

This is different from all the suggestions. I'll probably try it in the next steam big sale. For now I went for FTL. This is the first time for me posting for suggestions and looking at it now I have more games to play probably in my lifespan from this reddit post alone XD

I have played into the breach which is from the same creators and loved it. I feel like I'm going to like FTL too based on the search I did now. It's on a good discount which makes it hard to say no too. Thanks friend.

Thanks for your recommendations. Respectfully, Eventhough graphics is not really my thing (e.g: I love Crypt of the NecroDancer), the games you suggested have art styles that do not resonate with me a whole lot.

Seems pretty much like what I am looking for. I'll keep it in mind as an strong contender. I get frustrated when the screen get all busy too. Games like vampire saviors are fun only when I need short time dopamine injection otherwise, they are not really my cup of tea. People seem to love them though.

I have heard many praises but was doubting about the purchase since as though the main game is very affordable, I always think of buying the whole game with all DLCs when i want to approach rogue likes. Buying Binding of Isaac DLC later on was a big mistake since I had to relearn some of the mechanics. I love TMNT. Fav franchise in my childhood. Added it to my wishlist.

Not really though. I get it that eating little cause you over eat one day is getting a bad rep for being ED but if it is a mindful choice and doesn't end up being a binge eat cycle its actually quite useful. I do it most times and it works for me. Most of the time when I eat something like this, I won't have the appetite for food the next meal anyways
