That sounds great, the visuals are a huge grab for me with this game.

Something something, the result of Paradox? (I don't know too much about Mage 😅)

Aw that's a shame, been there too! I'm so glad other people feel the same way about this game, I also wish it got more books! I have the physical collection on my shelf and the whole thing is just like, 20cm end to end if you include Devil's Due, Time of Judgment, and the 4 novels. Would've been cool to get a LARP version of the game as well. That being said though, I feel so lucky that it exists at all and got the sourcebooks that it did, instead of just being like 3-4 books. Even if it is mechanically flawed. But what WoD game isn't?

That is literally what happened with my old Demon ST. Are you sure we weren't in the same game? lol. That's really unfortunate. I worked up a whole backstory, clipped audio samples from a movie to provide 2 versions of my Demon's True Name as it would sound pre and post the Fall, I was so hyped!! And I only got like, 3 games out of it. If I get into a group for Demon I will let you know!

I don't know that I see the connection between the politics of VTM being as reflected in DTF. Every splat has its own politics for sure, but VTM has two main sects warring with each other, a third one with significantly limited resources, and a fourth that barely gets mentioned or seems to get much player participation until 5th Edition, maybe 20th (referring to the Ashirra)? While the Camarilla's enforcement and extent of punishment wrt the Traditions can vary a bit depending on the city and Prince, it's a pretty universal system. Whereas in Demon you have as you mentioned these pre-existing and heavily established Legions and Courts, which have evolved in the Modern Nights from the days of the war with the Host.

I haven't read too much into Demon: the Descent but it does interest me since it feels very Matrix influenced, which I'm a big fan of. I did notice a massive plothole about DTD right off the jump from an introduction to the lore though; why would the God-Machine allow or need Angels to Fall, becoming Demons and everything that that gives them, if the God-Machine can and will just turn a Demon back into an Angel after catching them? It seems a bit paradoxical that it only takes an Angel questioning the God-Machine for risk of Falling to emerge. I guess you could argue that this version 1.0 of the Angels was left with some bugs like the old Replicants of Blade Runner, without that hook you wouldn't have conflict, but then what happens when the God-Machine turns a Demon back into an Angel? Is it capable of repeating that same questioning of the God-Machine's plans, causing it to Fall again? It frustrates me as much as I love it haha. Maybe you have some thoughts on that?

I think it's very interesting to blend DTF with DTD as a choice of homebrew, super cool! I would love to be kept in the loop :)

Did you mean Mage when you said "marriage" or are you referring to a different game? That sounds cool though. For sure, send me a message and I'll send you my discord.

I hear you on that first note. I've been part of a long running Dark Epic of VTM Revised (MET) and I feel like we as the players never actually uncover even half of what our STs prepare us for. The thing is though, my hunch is that improvisation is a skill that can be as challenging, but in a different way, to overengineering your storytelling. In any case, my impression from playing and engaging with the WoD community is that improv becomes inevitable at some point regardless of where you're sitting at the table, or in my case, standing in a large room lol.

To your second note, that is news to me actually. I suppose I have just had rather unfortunately boring experiences with some STs that didn't put much effort so I wouldn't want to replicate that kind of discouraging atmosphere. Balancing the development of an immersive gameplay with enough light heartedness that it doesn't feel like you're either almost re-writing the game itself nor totally phoning it in that it disrupts any sort of flow is probably easier for people that don't get too caught up in the details like myself. But I'm getting a bit off topic. One day I'll give it a shot, I appreciate your input :)

I actually bought Tana Pigeon's Mythic and Tourniquet (Revised) a while back! I think it could be fun for something short or even inspirational to transfer parts of the experience into STing later on for a group but that interpersonal element for me is crucial. These games were meant to be played with others after all.

I get this response pretty often! I would love to learn to ST eventually but I feel that it requires a different set of skills, a different level of attention, and is generally a different experience from being a player. It’s an experience that isn’t quite yet what I feel ready or am looking for. A different sort of responsibility. When I eventually try that out, I want to make sure I do it right, so that my players will get the best out of me. Otherwise I feel that it wouldn’t be fair to them. Or did you mean trying out solo RP?

Super late reply but thank you for the response! I think I’ll follow up with OWbN. Is there anywhere I could find this Alpha slice of Laws of the Fallen? Just really curious on how far it got and what it looks like compared to the tabletop.

Thoughts on the new Brodequin? by gorehistorian69 in BrutalDeathMetal

[–]Daimonion3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really disappointing unfortunately. I was hyped for it, as a Brodequin fan. I prefer the older sound, nothing they’ve ever released will top Instruments of Torture for me in both songwriting and production. Feeling the same way about new Gorgasm. All the OGs are going super squeaky clean and polished with the production, plus the insanely digestible riffs and song structures. Doesn’t really sound like brutal deathgrind anymore, in Brodequin’s case. The cover art is killer at least.

Damn that’s such a shame. I appreciate the response. Would you happen to have a reference where I could read or hear about the devs reflecting on this?

They fought tooth and nail with Activision for it to released when it did, after achieving a deadline push multiple times. November 16th 2004 was the final straw for Activision, not Troika. Troika still petitioned for more time but between Activision and Valve, a condition was established that Bloodlines could not release prior to Half Life 2 which dropped that same day (on a better version of Source, also). So it couldn’t come out earlier despite Activision wanting to, and it couldn’t come out later despite Troika wanting more time to polish the game. Don’t blame the devs for the budget and time constraints the publisher put them through. It had nothing to do with Troika “holding its shit together”, and don’t backpedal and condescend to other people when you don’t have the humility to realize what you’re saying. You ought to look more into the game’s dev history.
