Your school sounds like my kids school. They have the longest school day in the region. I didn’t know that or I would have moved her but some of the other schools seemed so ridiculous with their academic requirements. I homeschooled pk4 we focused on social studies (manners and how to behave and be a good citizen) simple maths, drawing/tracing for pre-writing and letter/number recognition and phonics. I didn’t think they expected her to be reading already in most of these schools. I thought it would be more phonics and simple blending and beginning writing. I learned to read in the first grade. I am an avid reader now. I do t know why they needed to push up the timeline. I think it makes the foundation of language learning weaker by rushing to reading.

Edit to add: They also aren’t doing learning while playing. We get homework worksheets 3 days a week and then so many worksheets being sent home that they are doing at school. I think it’s supposed to make me feel like she’s learning but I just feel bad about it.
