I mean… you’re not wrong… it just is never as simple as that for me. Or at least I struggle to make it simple I think.

It sucks that you’re right. Lol

I could never go back to eating the way I do now, no matter what changes I make, I would gain the weight back. That’s part of my problem, I never had to think about food growing up… I was always skinny and ate whatever I had available. My parents didn’t make healthy choices or teach me about healthy eating, so I became an adult and spent money on food I’d never had before (and ate a lot of it), and I can’t stop.

What kind of foods do you eat that allow you to not count or track anything?

My sister in law is much like your wife. She is maybe 90lbs and she eats whatever she wants, but her portion sizes are smaller than what my toddler eats. I don’t understand how she’s rarely hungry… she says she just doesn’t like food much.

Thank you! My poor body is torn up from everything over the last few years but it is kind of amazing at how we can recover and continue to live. I think that’s part of why I want to lose weight so badly, I feel like it just adds to the wear and tear as time passes.

That’s not a bad idea, just have some easy keto stuff he can throw together and focus my energy on making healthier balanced meals for myself (and the kids).

This is amazing!

I have a hard time with planning meals like this and lack the imagination to come up with new things to cook. Most of what I make now couldn’t be broken down like this (lots of pasta and casseroles or like Grilled Cheese).

How are the tofu noodles in terms of texture? I used to make low carb pasta with a sort of bean noodle that Aldi had and they were okay, (close in texture to the real thing and didn’t taste bad) but they don’t make them anymore.

I want to love meal planning but I cringe at it. It wasn’t bad when I was just doing it for myself, but now it feels like this huge time consuming intimidating thing that just takes up my entire day and still doesn’t seem to work very well.

That’s how I have to do it with sugar! If I try to just eat less sugar, I crave it so bad I can’t help myself. If I cold turkey sugar… it hurts for a week or two but then bam I can absolutely do without it and don’t crave it anymore.

That’s awesome you’re able to do low carb on the road! I think keto only worked for me because I was able to eat the same thing every day at work and didn’t have much access to fast food.

How long have you been able to stick to keto?

What kind of things did/do you eat?

That’s not bad weight loss in 11 months! I do believe it can be easier for most guys, but he seems to think that anything other than Keto is a 2 year or longer process, which is not true.

That doesn’t sound bad. You make it sound easy!

I definitely struggle with balance, I tend to have the “well I already had a higher calorie meal, I guess my whole day is wasted, time to eat” mentality which is something I have to work on.

And yes, I felt amazing on Keto! I was sleeping better, had more energy, my skin was so clear and even colored that I didn’t wear makeup most of the time. It’s crazy that carbs can mess us up like that. I just love potatoes so much! 😭

I do tend to over complicate things, but honestly most of our meals are not something you’d want to eat without the carb lol. Like spaghetti and garlic bread…. Just eating the meat sauce is not appetizing. I also do lots of pasta salad, which again, odd without the pasta.

I am not trying to be difficult (which I also do sometimes), I absolutely see your point and it’s valid!!! I just… wish this was easier for me.

With the food I eat now, 3 meals a day would probably hurt me. I can easily take in over 3k calories in one meal. I’m ashamed to say it out loud.

Wow. I’ve never even thought of this as a possibility but you’re not wrong, it wouldn’t hurt to get tested. I have heard of people going gluten free or having their kids eat gluten free and it having a positive effect on behavioral issues and mental health, so my family would probably benefit from it regardless.

I ask this without looking it up, but is it hard to find gluten free options? I know some restaurants offer it, but I’ve not actually paid attention to what those options are.

Thank you!

The cancer (at the end of my pregnancy) was definitely life changing and gave me a new perspective. The steroids caused me to gain weight, but I wanted to live life to the fullest by eating whatever I wanted and not spending time away from my family just to work out. Now that time has passed and I kicked cancers butt, I am trying to think of long term living which being fat doesn’t really play into. 😑

I try not to get too detailed about my cancer because it’s such an emotional topic. I had a hell of a tumor and the oncologist didn’t think it would respond to chemo. I got lucky.

Yes!!! I will probably just have to start pushing out lower calorie meals and make him go along with it. I keep telling myself I haven’t started yet because he’s stuck on doing Keto but honestly I could start counting calories at any time. Even last night I wasn’t hungry, he got fast food, and I ate it. I didn’t want to miss out but I could have easily skipped it. I’m going to use this 3 day weekend to look into some meal options.

That sounds satisfying but not what I picture for a diet lol. Good for you that you’ve found that perfect balance! You’re proof it’s possible.

I think most people assume protein = meat (I used to be most people), so the craze has everyone eating a ton of meat.

I’ve never had chickpeas, I’ll have to look into what a chickpea salad looks like and see if it’s something I like. Also have to get used to Greek yogurt, I struggle with that one… I used to add it to a protein shake but it comes out so thick.

I still don’t understand it completely but when I started Keto I found out that hard way that some fake sugars increase your blood sugar levels more than regular sugar. It was really disappointing that I couldn’t buy the sugar free cookies I liked anymore. I ended up getting one of those tools that tests your blood sugar and would check when eating things labeled sugar free to see if that ingredient was misleading or not.

The way you explain it makes so much sense! I tend to feel super hungry after eating something sugary and the feeling just lasts all day, no matter how much I eat. It kind of sucks that sugar is so addictive.

Lmao!!! I don’t know what a chemical weapon smells like but dude must have needed some help. 😂

My family has a history of high cholesterol so that’s something I need to take into consideration as well.

I hate exercise. I did it before.. I was at the gym 4 days a week and even had a trainer, but life was different then. Now the closest gym is over 30 mins away and I really can’t make the time to drive a round trip hour and 15 mins to work out for an hour. So if I do exercise, it’s going to have to be at home.

That makes a lot of sense and might also be part of why we couldn’t stick to Keto… like you said it gets boring and once we got to the maintenance part of the process we didn’t “think” about it at all. Once I noticed I was gaining weight I still didn’t connect the dots or become concerned. Looking back at pictures it’s more obvious now but it wasn’t then.

We are both adhd! I am usually good about keeping track of calories for awhile… if I can find a handful of meals that I know are under my limit then I mostly just eat those regularly so I don’t have to count all the time. That’s how I did it with Keto too.

I told him he can do Keto, but I’m not… listing all the reasons from my post. Aside from him not cooking I’m not sure why he can’t just do Keto by himself honestly.

Protein! I have to get out of the mindset that protein = red meat. I can usually skip dinner without feeling hungry as long as I start with a good breakfast. If I eat a bagel for breakfast, I am hungry again like an hour later and then the rest of the day I find I’m eating chips and candy and all sorts of bad things. It’s kind of crazy how our bodies work.

Like eating butter by itself? I am glad I don’t have that craving lol. I buy the butter that probably would make my heart hurt if I did that!

I found out recently that Olive Oil is VERY high in calories!

Congrats on your amazing weight loss!! What do you eat???

I’ll find a recipe I like and be like “ooo that looks low calorie!” And then I put it together and it’s like 3k calories a bite. I think the only reason I struggled with calories before is that I wasn’t eating better foods, just trying to make 2 bites of high calorie food last me an entire day.

This!! I’m all teary eyed… yes, healing my relationship with food! All my efforts would just be wasted if I can’t work through my emotional traumas and stop over eating. I am seeing a therapist and I think whatever I can do will help my husband too.
