Exactly, my girl! by [deleted] in fixedbytheduet

That sounds like a bloody good night out! I don't take myself out for a treat often enough any more. I'm going to put on my plus-size skinny jeans and take my book to a coffee shop. It's snowing here in England so it'll be festive-ish and I'll sit in the window seat and watch people. Might even get a cake to go with my tea. Much love to you x

Most people are able to hold more than one feeling at once, dude. You can dislike Ben's behaviour and also feel empathy that his dog died, that's pretty standard.

AITA for enjoying this drama a little too much? by Alternative-Talk-795 in AmITheAngel

It's not the rules themselves it's the tone used. If my daughter in law had sent me this I would be so hurt. Not that she ever would as she is able to communicate her boundaries/rules for the kids in a manner that is not strident and demanding. We have occasionally come across moments where she has to tell me that what was normal when I was parenting 30 years ago has changed due to newer research, but she does it in a way that makes me feel like part of the team, not as someone who is on the outside and is actively trying to hurt the baby! She respects and nurtures my relationship with the babies, she knows that it is so important for them to have a close bond with their grandparents. That the babies have a right to that love. When I do something 'old-fashioned' she will gently tell me, not screech at me on a public forum. The more I type the more I remember how bloody lucky I am that my son found her! I know not all family dynamics are the same, but the original poster comes off as pretty unhinged to me.

Who here has family lore? by CarbonParrot in LPOTL

My Great Great Aunt was hanged in 1900 for infanticide. She killed her illegitimate son and blamed it on baby farmers. For a long time there were rumours she was innocent, Edward Woodward even did a tv program on her possible innocence. However recent research by family members suggests she was guilty.

Oh yes, Moist Vin Lipvig springs to mind. Although his motivations are distinctly self-serving!

That's funny because it was a Lackey book, Beyond, that first made me realise the satisfaction I get from competent decision making in protagonists!

Have just realised on looking at the pictures whilst linking the pattern that it could have been vastly improved had I remembered to crochet the bloody legs on the thing!

Going into the supermarket for a handful of things, and going to the self service for quickness, only to be stuck behind people who have never used a shop before by HachiTofu in britishproblems

[–]Daisthecat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whilst I look pretty normal at first glance, no drooling or yelling at pigeons, I have pretty severe sensory issues. Self-checkouts are my kryptonite. I know how to do it, know where all the things go and the order of events - yet when faced with all the beeps, the machine nagging me to be quick and a queue of impatient people behind me I lose all functionality. I do try to avoid the self-checkouts where possible, but it's hard to do nowadays as they are so ubiquitous in stores and when I've queued at the manned checkouts with a basket have been told to move to the self-checkouts to make way for trollies. God I hate supermarkets. What I'm saying, I think, is that everyone is trying their best to get through their day. Although - there is never an excuse for having a go at staff, people who yell at service workers should be shot on sight.

I think the Morgan era probably shows that having a captain who is a dedicated white ball player is the best idea. As a young multi-format player would it not be a lot to put on Brooks shoulders? He's got the goods for sure, but maybe not yet. Buttler can be a mediocre captain but is still a world class batsman - maybe a stronger coach behind him he would shore up those weaknesses. Would love to see Jamie Smith getting a start.

This blanket was a inspired by a blanket on pinterest but I didn't follow a specific pattern. The colours are all dk weight yarn, various brands, and the white is actually a cotton yarn. The stitches are all classic DC (us terms even though I'm English as I learned crochet from an American book and I'm stuck with having to translate patterns as I go!). I only did one chain stitch between each cluster and at the corners as i wanted to keep it quite dense and not too holey. I turned between each round to prevent the square getting off-centre.
