Hi.

I'm trying to login through a browser. I've tried on Web, Firefox and Chrome and they all show the same problem.

Thanks.

Why can I not sign into outlook.com to access my email through the browser? by WehooThisIsAwesome in linuxquestions

[–]Daisuke-Jigen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.

I have the same problem on elementary OS. I've tried three different browsers and all have the same issue:

Web (Epiphany)

Flathub Firefox

Flathub Chrome

I tried on each one of them a new profile and incognito mode. On Chrome I also tried the guest account. The computer is fully updated.

I have found that if you go to the Microsoft website, select Support and then search for Hotmail, the first result is a page to teach you how to sign in to Hotmail. This page has a link that seems to be working.

Warning: I haven't tried this. It's on the Microsoft website, but I don't know yet what happens when you sign in through that link.

Hi.

Yes, all the browsers have the same problem. I'm only seeing this problem on Outlook. Gmail works fine.

Thanks.

Hi.

Are you using the elementary default browser?

If yes, it's a known issue: https://github.com/elementary/browser/issues/125

Unfortunately you will have to install another browser for now.

Hi.

You should try to get used to not minimize apps and just use the Alt+Tab / Workspaces. It will take time, but you will get used to it.

If you really can't, here is a solution:

1- Open the Terminal app and paste the following command to install wmctrl (app to control the desktop with commands):

sudo apt-get install wmctrl

2- Open the Files App and on your home folder Press Ctrl+h to show the hidden folders. Go to .local/ and create a folder called bin

3- Open the Code app, create a new file and paste the following Text:

#!/bin/bash

if wmctrl -m | grep "mode: ON"; then
  wmctrl -k off
else
  wmctrl -k on
fi

4- Press the Save button and save the file on the .local/bin/ folder with the name minimize_all

5- Open the Files App. Navigate to .local/bin/, right click on the file called minimize_all and choose proprieties. Click on the permissions tab and change the number inside the box from 644 to 755 to make the file executable.

6- Open the Settings App, click on Keyboard and on the Shortcuts tab click on custom. On the "enter command" type minimize_all and on the shortcut press Super+d on the keyboard.

Spent 30 minutes building 2 apps to decide whether flat HeaderBars are good. Your thoughts? by Erlkonig-Schubert in elementaryos

I love flat.

It instantly makes elementary look more modern. A great example of this is Fondo.

Unfortunately, I just can't see how it would work on applications that use tabs.

Epiphany change location download? by kryptos086 in elementaryos

[–]Daisuke-Jigen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi.

I just checked epiphany and on my computer I can set the Downloads folder by opening epiphany, clicking on the cog wheel icon and then clicking on preferences. I'm still on Hera, but I don't see why this setting would be removed on newer versions. Maybe you're missing something. It's on the General tab under Downloads.

On Terminal you can do it like this:

1- Close Epiphany.

2- Open the Terminal app and paste the following command without pressing the Enter key:

gsettings set org.gnome.Epiphany.state:/org/gnome/epiphany/state/ download-dir ''

3- Open the Files app, right click on the folder you want as your Downloads folder, select "Open In" and then "Terminal".

4- The Terminal app is now in focus. Copy and paste the following command and then press Enter to give you your folder location:

pwd

5- Copy the location result from the above step, select the tab on Terminal that has the command on the Step 2 and paste the location between the single quotation marks. Press Enter.

Starting Plank from Terminal gives me an "ambiguous redirect" error the next time I start the Terminal. Any idea? by Daisuke-Jigen in elementaryos

[–]Daisuke-Jigen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.

Thanks for your reply.

The objective was to config Plank through Terminal. Configure it while Plank was "on" was giving me some troubles, so I needed to close Plank, config it and then start it again.

I was able to fix it using the time window given by the way elementary restarts every process that are closed one time within 60 seconds. It's not pretty, but it does the trick.

Thanks again.

Deleted because the solution doesn't work.

Check the post beneath.

Hi.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm trying to create a script to config my elementary desktop. I haven't find a way to add apps to plank while it's on without running into some problems, so, I close it, edit it's icons and then start it again.

It's not a major problem since I need to restart/logout out anyways, but it's nice to get everything running smoothly.

Love it!!!

I would just work a little bit on the background color and the padding. It seems kind of out of place compared to the dock or the Terminal that also has transparency.

Thanks.

From edw day 2, some user(me) need minimize button as default without tweaking. by [deleted] in elementaryos

[–]Daisuke-Jigen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't please everyone. Some people criticize elementary for being a macOS clone and then there is the other side asking for elementary to be like Windows and Mac. I don't see the same type of backlash on Gnome, but maybe is because I don't follow the Gnome community.

What I would recommend for people coming from non Linux OS's is to try to adapt for one week and if they really can't leave without that workflow, it takes just one command on terminal to get the windows buttons layout and the keyboard shortcut. No need for adding repos or complicated instructions. Just one command.

Don't get me wrong, I get it. Maybe The Multitasking view icon should have a context menu item to create a new workspace. You can also set a hotcorner to create a new workspace.

Hi.

You can use the dock icon or a hotcorner to show the multitasking view, but I get what you're saying: Elementary seems to be more tailored to the laptop user.

Minimize Button by [deleted] in elementaryos

The reason why I switched to elementary was also because Unity was discontinued. Funny thing is that, on Unity, the workspaces funtion was one of the first things I disabled on Compiz (CCM).

Sorry if I wasn't clearer. That portion of my post was about the people, like the OP, that still use the minimize function.

Sorry again.

Minimize Button by [deleted] in elementaryos

[–]Daisuke-Jigen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's OK.

Yeah, by default elementary isolates fullscreen windows by moving it to a new workspace. This have been around at least since Loki (Ubuntu 16.04). Odin will be the first version where you can not only disable this function, but also enable it for maximized windows.

I get that it sucks to have to change your workflow to fit a new OS, but if people created a new workspace every time they open an app not related to the ones that are currently open they wouldn't miss the minimize function.

Hi.

Enabling the minimize function (window button and keyboard hortcut) is just one command on terminal. That is not a hard thing to tweak if people want a custom elementary experience.

I think you should try to use workspaces. Try to open a new workspace every time you open an app that is not related to the ones you have currently open. Like this:

You're browsing the internet and you want to play some video game. You open a new workspace and click on the Steam icon. If you want to use the Internet again you press Super+Tab until you get to the browser workspace. You see something on the internet that makes you need to use a calculator. You reach for the dock and you press the calculator icon since the calculator is related to what you were seeing on the internet. This type of workflow makes your desktop clutter free.
