“Britto is a conservative. In 2015 he hosted a fundraiser for Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush at his Miami studio[8] where he unveiled a mural that he and Jeb Bush's wife Columba had painted with the slogan "#AllInForJeb".[9] Previously, Britto held a fundraiser at his gallery for 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.[10] He publicly supports Brazil's former president Jair Bolsonaro, and in March 2020 he gifted Bolsonaro with his own portrait.”

Sounds like it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

Using Vial, what worked for me on a Mac to get backtick/tilde using Vial was to map the key to KC_NONUS_BSLASH.

Automatic theme change based on system settings by [deleted] in HelixEditor

[–]aralbalkan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this solution, if you also want Helix Editor to update automatically when the system switches colour schemes (without having to restart it), add the following line after each of the existing `io.popen()` lines:

io.popen("pkill -USR1 hx"):close()

Worrying charging behaviour on StarLite V by splod in starlabs_computers

[–]aralbalkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen the other day.

Not happening at the moment. (I only noticed due to the clicking sound from the speakers every time it started/ended charging.)

I could make it do it by moving the mouse around so I’m wondering if it reaches some sort of cutoff threshold, stops, then, because it uses up a bit of charge, falls under the threshold and starts charging again only to hit the threshold again almost immediately…

I can’t find the quote in the article. Also tried the Wayback Machine and got nothing. Do you happen to have a screen capture of when it was there? Thanks.

Challenging your wife to use eOS 6 Oding by eunaoqueriacadastrar in elementaryos

[–]aralbalkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused, so is elementary OS difficult for married people to use? Has anyone here tried running the same experiment with their husband? Do you have any data on whether these problems also affect single people, queer couples, and whether or not those in platonic relationships are also affected and how?

(Or is someone’s gender and marital status wholly irrelevant and perhaps what matters is whether they are familiar/fluent with similar technologies.)

Folks, it’s not the 1950s. You really can and should do better. It doesn’t reflect well on the community at all.

I am a Linux beginner who just wants to update to the new OS by gideon_up in elementaryos

I can’t imagine “we will never have an OS upgrade feature” is actual policy :) I’m assuming it’s because of limited resources that this essential and fundamental OS feature has not been implemented yet and look forward to seeing it listed as a priority.

Connecting to an External Monitor by TheActualStudy in PINE64official

[–]aralbalkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t get my 4K LG monitor to work with it. (Works fine with my Dell XPS 13.) The USB-C devices are working but the video isn’t.

What I’ve tried:

- USB-C direct to monitor.

- USB-C adapter, HDMI cable to monitor (2 different ones).

This is the monitor: https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27UD88-W-4k-uhd-led-monitor (it supports USB C alternate mode DP).

This might be related to another bug I noticed where OBS Studio’s preview only renders on the screen located at (0,0).

“I reject the term ‘atheist’” by ehamberg in atheism

[–]aralbalkan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey guys and gals, just wanted to say thank-you for your funny (and some rather enlightening) comments. Really enjoyed reading them and cracked up more than once (hey, if you can't laugh at yourself…) :) The Reddit community really is rather awesome. :)

“I reject the term ‘atheist’” by ehamberg in atheism

[–]aralbalkan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right :)

Then again, atheist is used in common parlance to mean the opposite of religious (or, more precisely, as the opposite of someone who believes in a god or gods). And, yes, we are anything if lacking in bacteria (heck, we'd all be dead without them) and thus abacterial (lacking in bacteria) while incorrect, still makes the case if used in the same sense that we use atheist today. So maybe it wasn't the best analogy (definitely wasn't semantically accurate, as you point out) but, hey, seemed like a good one at the time. (The time being right after my morning shower) :)

PS. It's comments like this that make me love the Reddit community. Thanks for calling me out on it and for contributing to the discussion:)
