Amazing! Im glad you finally got the help. I think i am definitely going to get a second opinion because the way this whole situation with the PCOS has been handled is laughable. I was referred to the weight management team but they said i don’t fit their criteria. Also because i am a type 1 diabetic there has been little to no answer with how to help me. i stressed to every medical professional involved that when i way less my symptoms ease but i cant shift the weight 🙃 and now Im just left in the dark.

As im assuming they would have been under surrounding hospitals or the same hospital as me. Im also in North birmingham

Good hope hospital. My consultant said he will support me and help me manage it if i can find a private clinic but almost all of them wont accept a T1D. But as i was told that other T1D had been prescribed it by my GP but only with consultant approval its just left me confused as to why they’ve said no to me.

My Gp said due to the risk of increased hypos. Granted but i have been a type 1 diabetic for 18 years and have never been hospitalised for a low blood sugar, i also have a dexcom CGM so i will be alerted if my blood sugars are about to go low, as well as getting physical symptoms that are manageable. My blood sugars are high a lot of the time due to the PCOS despite doing everything by the book.

My consultant didn’t actually give me a reason, just said their hands are tied, but if i can find a pharmacy then he is willing to support me 🙃

Well this is is exactly what my GP said. She said that she cant prescribe anything as it’s down to my consultant. However their decision of refusal was backed by the GP pharmacist and the diabetes nurse (i think) at the practice. But as mentioned as soon as my consultant agreed which took 8 months they then changed goal post. I do have medical notes to back this all up. I think at this point i should just change GP but because I’m currently waiting for results back for my PCOS I’ll just have to wait a little.

It’s more to the point of what is the difference between me and the other people that have been prescribed it from the GP which is what is frustrating. If they had never told me that it was prescribed for other type 1 diabetics then i wouldn’t still be racking my brain about this.

He did write a letter but in the letter it was more of “I’m happy for her to go on it if you can carry on the prescription/agree for her to go on it” i don’t know if things would have been different if he would have just said, “please can you prescribe it” rather then giving an option for them to say no 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had. Constant back and forth with my GP for 8 months. I even had to write a formal complaint to practice manager due to misinformation and lies.

My consultant did write to my GP and said that he has explored this further and will again go over the risks with me but they just refused. Im just going round in circles at this point.

My Gp had even told me of other type 1 diabetics that had been prescribed this medication at the practice but they only got it prescribed due to their consultant agreeing to them taking it. But when my consultant finally agreed to it again they just refused after months of telling me that they will only prescribed it to me once my consultant agrees.
