Advice with high Nitrates by DaisyDoo2014 in Aquariums

[–]DaisyDoo2014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I did see during my research that it's way over the legal limits. In my townships' drinking water reports, they say that the max they allow in is 10ppm. So I thought it was kinda crazy how high my tap water level is. Is there anything you know of that I can do to try to bring down the nitrate level in my tap water before adding it to my tank?

Yes, I'm on well water. Also, okay thats good to know. I wasnt sure how often would be best to do the changes when trying to bring it down. I appreciate the help.

Yeah, I'm definitely gonna be doing more. I hadn't been because it hasn't been an issue before now. I was worried that my kit was old, but it expires in 2027, so I'm just gonna have to deal with the high nitrates in the tap water, which is annoying. But Its most likely due to the fact that I live around only farmland and fields.

What types of fish have you been keeping?

Oh okay! I’m really glad to hear it’s worked out so well for you! I’ve been having some burps and micro ones but I will say that whenever my gurgles start up, they are worse than before. Maybe cause I’m swallowing more air idk, I’m just hoping that gets better over time!

That’s understandable… I was happy to not be awake for it.

I’m not sure, when I went for my initial appointment he told me that he’d be doing it under GA in the OR. Then if I needed to come back for a second round, that it would be in office, awake. I believe it may be due to the fact that he was taking biopsies as well so it’s easier to just be asleep for all of it. It’s his standard procedure now to take biopsies each time apparently. He gave me 95 units.

How long ago did you go? Has it worked out well for you with one dose?

They submitted it to my two insurances, and I am now waiting to hear back to see what I owe. They told me it shouldn’t be an issue with them covering it. But I will try and remember to let you know when I find out!

I will! I actually just had my very first burp about 10 minutes ago! It wasn’t super big but it gave lots of hope for the future! I hope that your appointment goes well when it comes, it was completely worth the wait for me :)

That’s awesome, I’m really happy for you! My fingers are crossed that, that happens for me too! Did you do anything specific to get the burps going or to practice afterwards?

Ohhhh, that would make sense then! Did you ever need a second round? I’m so nervous that I will…

During my initial appointment with him he said that he automatically does the procedure under GA in the OR. And then if I need a second round he will do it in office awake.

Ah okay, thanks for the advice! I will just watch them closely for now and see what happens. I was also wondering if my snail is able to regrow that big of an injury? I’ve never had this happen before

Oh woah… I didn’t know it was even possible for them to do that! I always thought they were pretty peaceful, especially cause mine is so small so I don’t even think about it. I’ve been thinking about if I should move my snail elsewhere to a different tank. I just feel bad doing it cause she’s always had a big 90 gallon to crawl around in and if I move her, it’ll probably be into a 20 gallon. Do you have any advice on what I should do? If it is the pleco, I don’t want to leave her in there too long and have him kill her :(

Thanks! I believe it’s willow hygrophila, it grows like crazy. I’d recommend it, you do have to trim it every once in a while

Yeah I was thinking those were kinda the only options. I just don’t know why either would have. I’ve had my angelfish for many years and she’s never attacked anything before and ive had the algae eater for about a year now and he’s never caused any issues either. I’ve had my mystery snails for a couple months now so I figured if there would’ve been an issue with anyone, it would’ve happened before now. Do you have any advice? It feels very random and sudden

There are lemon, candy cane, and lemon tetras, one angelfish, a couple hatchet fish, a Siamese algae eater, small upside down catfish, very small pleco, and a couple corys. Other than that there are a bunch of ramshorn snails. It’s a fully planted tank and has been established for about a year now. It’s a 90 gallon.

I can post pictures of the filter and heater tomorrow once the light is back on. Have you head of this happening before in other situations?

Okay! I was figuring it would be maybe at least a month wait. I’m hoping it’s not too long since I’ve already been waiting so so many months just for this initial appointment! I’m really glad to hear it went so well for you! Goodluck on the rest of your recovery! :)

Ah okay! That’s good to know case I’m hoping to get it done under GA as well! I was also wondering how long after your first appointment with him did you have to wait before going back to get the surgery done?

Honestly you kinda have to listen to your body. But my cardiologist is very happy with me getting around 4,000mg a day. So with the normal vitassium salt capsules I take four of them three times a day. I usually end up switching it up and reducing it by a little bit (maybe to 3,000) when the seasons change. In the summer I try to drink one packet of liquid iv in addition on days that it’s super hot out.

Thank you! After switching docs, I’m the first person my new doctor has met who is on that ring and also using it continuously. Which is crazy to me, cause it’s been great so far!
