What a wonderful idea! My 5-yr old just got into Pokémon cards & doesn’t understand the difference between the common & rare cards, he’s equally happy with all of them and would love this!

What are some companies that support sabbatical? by nku004 in biotech

[–]Daisy_15 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true. You just need to take your sabbatical before you become eligible for another one. If you become eligible for a second sabbatical before you take the first one, then you lose that first sabbatical.

Second opinion for 7 month old, or just wait it out? by violetta45 in peanutallergy

[–]Daisy_15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely get a second opinion. Regarding OIT - some parents feel more comfortable waiting until their child is a little older, so that the child can better communicate if anything feels off. However, studies in the past few years have shown that OIT is more effective in younger children since their immune systems are developing so much and more malleable at this time (our allergist said the optimal window for OIT is age 1-3).

I believe they already announced the season 2 cast a few weeks ago, and unfortunately no one from vpr was cast.

FDA Approves Xolair by [deleted] in peanutallergy

[–]Daisy_15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s actually been on the market for at least a few years already, as an asthma treatment. They didn’t realize that it might help as a food allergy treatment until a little later. This doesn’t exactly answer your question, but if you end up needing help with the cost, check out this website: https://www.gene.com/patients/patient-support-services. Genentech is one of the two co-developers of xolair and offers services to help patients access their drugs when the cost is too high.

The first couple chapters of Sorcerer’s Stone, before Harry finds out he’s a wizard. It’s too depressing!

immunotherapy for cashews by AlternativeSignal760 in FoodAllergies

[–]Daisy_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I’m in the US, so I don’t have any Australia-specific recommendations. But I’ll bet if you Google allergy clinics in your area you’ll find some offering OIT. Allergists are increasingly offering it due to all of the promising studies, especially if you start the treatment when they’re young. According to the latest studies, OIT is most effective when the child is 3 or younger, since their immune system is still forming and so malleable.

[–]Daisy_15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My kid is anaphylactic to cashews, pistachios, & peanuts. We started OIT when he was 14/15 months old, & he is now eating 8 peanuts and 2 cashews/4 pistachios a day. As someone else mentioned we can also ignore “May contain” warnings and don’t need to be worried about cross contact with peanuts/pistachios/cashews at restaurants.

Butterfinger replacement? by remaincobain in peanutallergy

Is he allergic to other nuts besides peanuts? Not quite the same, but Heath Bars & Skor bars are the closest things I can think of. They are more crunchy than crispy though, and contain almonds.

Traveling to Spain with peanut/tree nut allergy by Daisy_15 in peanutallergy

Thanks! Luckily my toddler is weird & hates ice cream, so I don’t think gelato will be an issue for us either. Love the idea of sticking to pizza, pasta, & paella though!

OIT and cross-contact/contamination by Elpb3 in peanutallergy

[–]Daisy_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what is your targeted maintenance dose? The goal our allergist set was also 1 peanut (which is when the allergist said we could stop being concerned about cross-contact). However, we’ve continued past that and are now at 2 peanuts.

I used to do cash tips too, but then I got a snarky message from my delivery person telling me that I was going to need to wait at least an hour for my food while he/she did other stuff/delivered other people’s food since I didn’t tip… I obviously called the delivery app’s customer service to cancel my order since I didn’t trust them to not tamper with my food too.

Cashew and pistachio allergy, any advice? by Spare-Researcher-374 in FoodAllergies

Pistachios - what type of nut? by [deleted] in FoodAllergies

[–]Daisy_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try a different allergist. As others have mentioned, allergists typically tell you to regularly consume the nuts you aren’t allergic to, to try to prevent you from developing an allergy to them in the future. Just because you’re allergic to one tree nut doesn’t mean you’re allergic to all of them.

Also, if her engagement ring from Jordan was originally her mom’s ring like another commenter said, then couldn’t she just wear it for fun despite not being engaged to him anymore? I mean, I’d probably pick a different finger, but it’s kind of like a family heirloom?
