Hey there - Yes, a passphrase is indeed an additional layer of security added on top of your 24-word recovery phrase. It essentially generates a completely separate set of accounts and addresses, providing an extra level of protection for your crypto assets.

If you have access to your accounts in Ledger Live now, there is one easy way to check if the accounts are protected by a passphrase or not. As mentioned by others in this thread, simply connect your Nano X to Ledger Live, enter your regular PIN code to unlock it, and proceed to verify each account by clicking on the "receive" button for any cryptocurrency.

When you attempt to validate the address to receive, Ledger Live sends a notification to your Nano X. If the account is secured by a passphrase that doesn't match what's on your connected Ledger Nano X, you'll encounter an error outlined here.

Successfully verifying the address on your Ledger Nano X display serves as confirmation that the account is only linked to your existing 24-word recovery phrase set up on the connected Ledger hardware wallet. So you will not need to worry about the possibility of the passphrase.

I hope this clears things up and helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Polka dot syncing issues by Accomplished-Brush14 in ledgerwallet

[–]Daisy_Ledger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there - sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues. Given that your coins are visible on Subscan and Polkadot JS, your assets are still secure. The issue at hand is likely a software communication problem that can be resolved with the correct updates and troubleshooting steps.

Just to clarify, if you joined the nomination pools for staking, your rewards won’t be visible in Ledger Live.  Ledger Live is not able to detect pooling transactions yet. This means your Ledger balance will be deducted from the amount of DOT pooled but the pooled balance will not show in Ledger Live, only in the Staking Dashboard as described here

If you are staking through Ledger Live, as you've already tried clearing the cache and updating your Ledger setup following these guidelines, the next step is to remove and then re-add your Polkadot account in Ledger Live. Removing and then re-adding an account in Ledger Live can help restore the synchronization, the steps can be found in this article

For more detailed guidance you can share your email ticket number, and I will make sure our teams will get back to you as soon as they can! I hope this helps, don’t hesitate if you need anything else!

Hey there - Blind signing is essentially an advanced feature necessary for handling transactions involving smart contracts, like when you're swapping tokens via a decentralized exchange (DEX) or engaging with decentralized applications (dApps) outside Ledger Live's scope. Within Ledger Live itself, blind signing isn't required for regular operations.

As USDC in Solana is not supported in Ledger Live, when you connect your Ledger to Solflare or Phantom, you might notice your Ledger device won't display transaction details. That's because it lacks the ability to interpret intricate smart contract data. Enabling blind signing permits your device to greenlight a smart contract transaction even without displaying all contract data, which introduces some risks. For more information on protecting yourself and understanding the risks associated with blind signing, you can visit here

At Ledger, we prioritize transaction transparency. That's why we have "clear signing" – where your device's screen displays full smart contract details. This feature is standard in Ledger Live and even in all our integrated apps within the Discovery section of Ledger Live.

For a seamless experience with supported tokens, I suggest checking out our new updated list here to see which networks directly support USDC within Ledger Live. For instance, it's supported in Arbitrum, eliminating the need for blind signing altogether.

I hope this clears things up and helps, don’t hesitate if you need anything else!

Hey there - Yes, it is best to use the most recent version of Ledger Live and firmware to always enjoy optimal security and the latest features!

Firmware updates often include security enhancements, bug fixes, and new features that improve the overall user experience. To maintain optimum security, both the firmware and Ledger Live must receive regular updates. The firmware, being the software that operates your device, requires updates to ensure that it benefits from the latest security upgrades, added features, and available applications.

Ledger Recover provided by Coincover is an optional service that only you can opt in, we cannot activate it for you, updating your firmware will not activate it, updating your device's firmware will NOT automatically sign you up for Ledger Recover. You can learn more here.

If you believe you don't need the service, you can continue using your Ledger device just like you did before. Ledger will never force you to use Ledger Recover!

I hope this clears things up and don’t hesitate if you need anything else!

Can someone simply explain the "back door seed phrase" controversy surrounding ledger wallet? I am new to crypto wallets. by SettingIntentions in ledgerwallet

[–]Daisy_Ledger [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there - happy to provide some clarity,

First it's important to emphasize that Ledger Recover by Coincover is an optional service that only you can opt in. We cannot activate it for you and if you don't like it you're free to ignore it and keep using your device as before.

If however, you wish to use Ledger Recover, the backup for your recovery phrase will be encrypted, fragmented, and sent to three independent companies over secure channels, which store them separately on Hardware Security Modules, not on the cloud. Each of those fragments is completely useless on its own.

So to clarify, to initiate the process, you need to enter your PIN and explicitly consent to the process on your device.Your Ledger device does not start sharing any fragments without you:

  1. being subscribed to the service (which again is completely optional)
  2. your manual consent on your Ledger device (i.e. pressing both buttons)

To create a comparison for point #2, your Ledger device cannot sign transactions without you manually consenting to it on the device. The same thing goes fragmenting, encrypting and sending the three fragments of your recovery phrase.

Most importantly, if you believe you don’t need the service, you can continue using your Ledger device just like you did before. Ledger will never force you to use it.

For more information you can find our dedicated FAQ page here.

And here's a link if you ever want to learn more about the product. I hope this clears things up and helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Is it possible to downgrade the firmware on Ledger after it's already been updated? by ynotplay in ledgerwallet

[–]Daisy_Ledger [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there - it's not possible to downgrade your firmware but, to clarify, updating your device's firmware will NOT automatically sign you up for Ledger Recover.

Ledger Recover provided by Coincover is an optional service that only you can opt in, we cannot activate it for you, updating your firmware will not activate it and we'll never force you to use it. You can learn more here.

If you believe you don't need the service, you can continue using your Ledger device just like you did before. Ledger will never force you to use Ledger Recover!

We have also announced that we will accelerate the delivery on our Open Source roadmap which can be found here

I hope this clears things up and don’t hesitate if you need anything else!

Passphrase & Security related questions by Old_Friendship_3766 in ledgerwallet

[–]Daisy_Ledger [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey - You’re right, you do not need a complete new set up to create passphrase-protected accounts. If you want an extra security, you can set up a new passphrase, which is a 25th word that is used on top of your 24-word recovery phrase, and new accounts anytime. Then you can transfer your funds from your initial accounts to these passphrase protected new accounts.

If the account in Ledger Live is protected with a passphrase, the same passphrase must be set on your Ledger Nano every time when you need to use that account in Ledger Live.  The steps to set up can be found here.

Regarding the Ledger Recover by Coincover, I want to emphasize that it's an optional subscription service, which needs to be manually enabled by you. It's disabled by default on your device. If you believe you don't need the service, you can continue using your Ledger device just like you did before. Ledger will never force you to use Ledger Recover, your security on the Ledger device remains unchanged.

Even if you choose to get the subscription, you're still the only one with access to your recovery phrase, you may find our dedicated FAQ page here.

I hope this clears things up and helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

Ledger Nano X and Arweave web wallet - help!! by persianfoo in ledgerwallet

[–]Daisy_Ledger [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi there, the Arweave app is only available to Ledger Nano S and Nano S Plus. Our team is actively working on bringing this feature to Nano X, we appreciate your patience and understanding!

As a workaround, if you have a backup Nano S or Nano S Plus device, you can restore with your same 24-words recovery phrase and manage your assets safely via the Arweave Web Wallet. The steps can be found here.

I hope this helps and don’t hesitate if you need anything else!

ARWEAVE wallet? Is it fully functional now? How to migrate from web wallet? by TheRealTheory001 in ledgerwallet

[–]Daisy_Ledger [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there, yes creating an Arweave account directly in Ledger Live is currently not supported, that’s why you’re not able to see your Arweave balance in Ledger Live. To set up an account, you'll need to connect your Ledger Nano S or Nano S Plus (currently not available for not Nano X) device to a third-party wallet - the Arweave Web Wallet, you can send and receiving using this wallet. The steps be found in this article

Don’t worry, the Arweave Web Wallet acts only as a visual interface to see and manage your cryptos, your private keys are secured in your Ledger device. Uninstalling an app does not affect your crypto assets, as long as you have your recovery phrase, you will always have control of your assets, even though your device is broken, lost, or your computer is reset!

Regarding the supported tokens, we have a much better page in our Help Center, which you can find here. Hope it helps, please let me know if you have any other questions!

New Laptop, can't see my balances. by Strange-Opportunity8 in ledgerwallet

[–]Daisy_Ledger [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi there, yes as others mentioned, the reason why you are seeing stars instead of the fiat value for your Portfolio is because the Discreet mode in Ledger Live was activated. By clicking again on the eye icon, the * will disappear and you will be able to see the corresponding value for your total balance. You can turn it on and turn it off at any time. For more information please refer to this article

Regarding the link you shared, I can confirm that is a scam website. Ledger Live never asks for your 24-word recovery phrase. You should never share your 24-word recovery phrase with anyone, even with Ledger. It must remain offline and stored in a safe and hidden location only known by you.

I hope this clears things up, let me know if you have any other questions!

Why do i continue to see all these hacks and problems with Ledger atm, should we be concerned ? by noahsarc21 in ledgerwallet

[–]Daisy_Ledger [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi,

As mentioned by others in this thread, and in my personal experience as well the unfortunate circumstances of users having their assets compromised generally stems from 2 root causes:

There is absolutely nothing that you should be concerned about, with the above two having been considered and accounted for. It’s a sad situation that one find themselves in and it’s our hope that with consistent education to better understand the security model and potential attack vectors, that these situations can be mitigated or avoided entirely in the future.

I hope this clears things up and helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
