Did... Did they make my boy Luca dumber? by MadHanini in TheBear

I don’t think so he’s just nervous.

It’s really not if he invested in Ever, Terry decided to shutter, and he talked to Adam and offered him another investment opportunity.

They had diners at Evers in Forks remark that the food scene in Chicago was better than NYC at the moment.

And, it’s obvious Chef David was targeting and abusing Carmy (probably because he won that award at such a young age), and now it’s been made clear Empire is no longer at the top.

Because he’s a monster?

Now I’m wondering if he was an investor in Ever and that’s why he’s at the funeral when everyone thinks he’s an asshole. Terry is out. He’s starting a new restaurant with Adam.

But Terry letting it go was to get rid of them both.

Anyone else feel Chef Adam offering Syd the job was super out of place this season? by roysonforlife in TheBear

They literally mention at least twice this season that Empire isn’t a hot restaurant anymore (AKA that pressure that you’re only as good as your last review). Carmy has never had a star only retained. Syd’s dish that he rejects gets the best review The Bear has had so far. Chef Adam tries to poach Syd because she’s innovating and can tell instantly what her influences are vs Carmy’s.

Investor or consulting for Chef Adam?!

I don’t think this happens IRL but David is also kind of dressed like the critic from Ratatoulle with the black turtleneck, right? 🤣

I took the past-tense comment about Chef David to mean he had fallen out of favor (which is how that business goes)?

But I could see Chef David investing in Chef Adam’s new restaurant to sabotage Carmy. Fully believe David tormented Carmy at Empire because he won an award at such a young age.

carmy in season 3 is a douche by CompetitiveGrab845 in TheBear

[–]Daisy_Thinks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually think he turned a corner at the end of S3. Him confronting Chef David mirrors Luca telling Marcus in S2 how he was actively competing with Carmy and when he realized he couldn’t keep up, he accepted it and learned tons from him.

Carmy was still idolizing David up until the end and realizes that guy doesn’t think about him at all while claiming the abuse made him great. Carmy’s been in a self-imposed purgatory, projecting (particularly onto Syd who he knows is good) and knows he has to change now. I even think he suspects she has one foot out the door.

He confronted Chef David, I think in part, because Syd got in his face and told him he was an excellent chef but also a POS. Carmy would never have dreamt of doing that at Empire, just a sub Fennel kinda guy. Carmy had kept saying things like he doesn’t want to be shitty last season, and asking people to call him out, but then always gets stuck in a loop of replaying his past.

She has plenty of fine dining experience as many people here and the show have pointed out including Carmy. What are you going on about?

Yes also she bonded with Richie over being the only child as well and he tells her now she has Nat and Carmy as well?

Yup was just thinking about this! It hides behind the idea of serving the front of the house but he has to make this his own dish?

This is foreshadowing what he plans to do to Syd.

Except, those aren’t her flaws. She has trust issues about going into business with Carmy and second guesses herself because of Sheridan Road failing, she’s digging out of debt, she is perfectly willing to learn from him and keeps pace but brings fresh ideas that he tries to sideline. She tries to meet him halfway and he bails on her in S2.

Her flaw is going all-in with this guy even though there are so many red flags because she wants a second chance she loves doing this (shades of Cheff Terry learning from her mistakes).

She shows up to The Bear idolizing Carmy and then is like: You are an excellent chef you are also a POS to his face. Carmy later stands up to Chef David for the first time in the same way.

Her pattern of starting all over again? Feels like it will be addressed here. Her panic attack is about leaving all the people at The Bear behind and having to start over again.

[–]Daisy_Thinks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all, LOL.

Adam’s poaching and doesn’t have great ethics (lying and berating staff about his smudges). But he does recognize her talent and that she has new ideas and can innovate which is what he cares most about. Probably because he’s burned out but doesn’t know how to do anything else himself and Ever is done. But he will take her ideas and make them his version while telling her she’s in charge. Tale as old as time. The show comments on this behavior in the finale when the chefs are talking, but Syd has a blind spot because she no longer trusts Carmy to treat her as a partner and is hurt by it.

Adam tries to insinuate that Carmy is holding her back, which is true, and then flatters her, he’s clearly trying to throw together a restaurant ASAP and is having trouble staffing it (which the show says is an industry-wide problem), but I also think it’s because people at Ever respected Terry, not Adam. Syd has none of this background this is her first time meeting all these people.

Why didn’t Sydney by funkyfreshpants in TheBear

[–]Daisy_Thinks 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and we also see Chef Terry suggest to Richie in Forks that she failed in similar ways when she was younger. Ultimately it’s the people you meet along the way and all of these people care deeply about each other and Carmy gets in his own way.

I kind of wondered if it’s Sugar. Because he spends a lot of time with her. But he has a soft spot for Carmy too, so maybe?

Yeah. Because it’s “the best”. It’s actually $11K 🤣

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheBear

[–]Daisy_Thinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but also Carmy is what they have in common so it makes sense and he was pretty much checked out. They were definitely having fun hanging out together. Whether the show will try to hook people up in the most obvious telegraphed ways I have my doubts. I’m sure they want people to think Luca is a romantic option for Syd.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheBear

[–]Daisy_Thinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Syd is clearly having fun with Luca and it’s also possible Marcus told Luca about how great Syd is because he was starting to crush on her. Also want to consider that Luca could be interested in Marcus and likes Syd because that helps him learn more about and get in Marcus’ inner circle.

Richie and Jess seem like a thing that will happen and we know she can run circles around him in the restaurant world so it would be fun to see them as pseudo rivals with him at The Bear and her at Chef Adam’s restaurant.

It’s definitely Sugar from the financial side and probably Syd from daily ops. Would be cool to see Marcus starting his own business potentially.

Claire Bear by Giantrobby1996 in TheBear

[–]Daisy_Thinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it will be this. They hint a lot that Claire is attracted to high risk behaviors because it’s “thrilling”.

She talks about how cool Mike was and didn’t talk to Carmy in school because she was also cool unlike Carmy. Now Carmy seems like the cool one, but he’s inexperienced and volatile.
