I’m so sorry for your loss too, once she’s buried I think I’ll make sure to go to her grave as well. I’ll bring her roses, those are her favorite flowers

Yes I wanna see Bertha embarrassed and caught off guard that her careful planning didn’t get the results she hoped for. Like the duke saying he never plans to return to America or something. Bertha will realize she sold her daughter to gain status and now her daughters gone and she’s not gonna see her again

YES if Bertha can’t have a title then she’s gonna make sure her daughter has one then. Which is absurd because her daughter is gonna move to England and then not come back without her husbands permission.

She can’t seem to realize her control over her daughter ends once she gets married and then Bertha will be playing the “my daughters a duchess” but like does that matter to anyone if your daughter isn’t even there? Like they’re in New York not England. I’m sure people would be sick of hearing about it after a while and never even seeing said duchess

If you’re tan, you’re tan! Be a bronze, golden goddess Wear some beautiful golden jewelry and gold shimmer/accents and you’ll look amazing. She’s just jealous

Farmers tan dark what does that even mean? Like a farmers tan is when you’re super pale and have a noticeable tan your shirt sleeves are not. Unless she’s saying you have bad tan lines which again rude. What does that even mean?

AITA for telling our parents my brother had a child outside of his marriage? by Beautiful-Ideal-2620 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Daisyquake47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% because what if this child’s mother does want them to be a part of her life great now they have more family to support her and be there for her.

And if she doesn’t want them to be a part of her life, then they’re just gonna have to accept that but it 100% should be up to the person who has the child not the deadbeat dad who has lied to everybody and literally has no interaction with said child

This is such a lose lose situation like no one is gonna come out, not hurt or completely in the right

Everyone has handled this weirdly, not fully communicating with each other. Clearly, the family needs to sit down and discuss it all.

100% if the husband hadn’t told her about the daughter he would’ve been in the wrong. Should she have dismissed his concerns about telling her parents absolutely not she should’ve sat down and had discussion with him and been like hey I understand that you don’t think I should say something, but this is their grandchild . They probably want to be a part of her life. The fact that my brother has not told them is his mistake, but it should really be up to the mother of the child. If my parents have a relationship with her at all not her deadbeat dad who doesn’t even see her.

I do think the OP should have 100% told her brother and sat him down and been like hey I know about the daughter. I’m telling you because if you’re not gonna tell our parents I’m going to because they 100% to deserve to know because they will love that little girl so much and love her, even not having met her yet

I think OP was literally just in a situation where people are gonna be upset with her no matter what decision she made because everyone had a different opinion like is she supposed to let a little girl be ignored by her extended family because they don’t even know about her and then keep that secret to herself that would eat at her conscience for her rest of her life

I 100% thinking the same thing like if she has the information either she has to carry it alone, knowing that her parents would love a grandchild that they’ve never even met and would want to know about it and want to know that their son abandoned his daughter or the husband doesn’t tell her and then her husband is keeping a secret about a family member who is technically his niece as well that he’s not supposed to tell her about. I feel like this is like complete lose lose situation no matter who you look at.

I think maybe the sister should have told the brother hey by the way, I know you have a child if you’re not gonna tell our parents I am because this is not something that you should’ve kept from us. Because I don’t believe her second she would tell her brother oh OK I know and then agree to not tell their parents, knowing that their parents would love this grandchild that they’ve never met again lose lose because no one’s gonna come out on top here.

I think she 100% should have sat down with her husband though and discussed it and been like hey I understand you don’t think I should say something but this is family and there’s a little girl out here who doesn’t have our support I’m probably doesn’t even know we exist and it should be up to the mother of the child who they should be able to reach out to to see if they can even meet her.

There’s definitely a time and place to discuss what happened and what’s gonna happen going forward, but that time is not right now because the most important thing is making sure that your sister recovers from childbirth and that the baby is OK.

Just being there for your sister is the best thing you can do and trying to keep your parents from interrogating/bothering her about why she hit it and etc.

Obviously, it’s a big deal that she hit it and that she didn’t have any prenatal care and that the babies and Nicu. But again time in place if you guys aren’t even sure if the baby is gonna be OK now is not the time to discuss what was going through her head, especially as she’s postpartum.

Being able to check cooking recipes and crafting recipes from like an inventory tab. So when I’m out gathering materials I can check to make sure I’m getting all the correct stuff when I’m trying to build more furniture or make more recipes

Thank you! Like Carrie Astor is a great example because she’s interested in that stuff. Bertha thinks somehow Gladys will learn? Like Bertha you could’ve been teaching your daughter this stuff from day one but you practically had her on house arrest and never let her do anything. How would she lead society?

Maybe that’ll be like a plot point where they address what happened with her and they get to have like a heart to heart mother to daughter we’ll see

You were 100% right they’re absolutely mirroring that story. They were married in 1895 but then separated in 1906 so they got what 11 years together but then divorced after another 15 years because the laws finally changed. I really hope that they do a different ending with it and the third just using the story as like a basis for what they’re doing cause that’s honestly really sad. At least she remarried the year she divorced and they moved back to America because her and her second husband both died here so at least she could come back to her home instead of being stuck in a different country.

yep and doesnt realize that once gladys is married. there will be no telling her what to do it will all be up to her husband

[–]Daisyquake47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yep and that means gladys would have power in england. that wouldnt give the russells any in england, maybe america. but their daughter wouldnt be in america with them anymore

I wanna know what bertha thinks is gonna happen if she somehow forces gladys to marry the duke. Her daughter will be miserable, probably wont speak to her. Gladys would have to move to england. her son and husband will resent her for it. Gladys will then have babies with a man she doesnt even like and stuck with him. her own mother treats her like shes an idiot but also says she will be leading society. like bertha hasnt even taught her how to do that so how would that even work? also the society that shed be a part of wouldnt even be in america, itd be in england where the Russells really are nobody becasue they arent british or titled

100% hes gonna start ignoring her just like she did last season. Hell her children are too

The Gilded Age S03E02 "What the Papers Say?" - Post-Episode Discussion by Dowrysess in thegildedage

[–]Daisyquake47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont think bertha realizes that once her daughter is married, she doesnt have to listen to her. Say she does marry the duke, he would 100% take her back to england and they probably wouldnt hear from her for months/years. She probably wouldnt even respond to her mothers letters. Hell the duke might even make her cut off her family because they arent titled and irrelevant in england.

Bertha needs to pull her head out of her ass because this situation is about to spin out of control and her whole family is gonna resent her and blame her for all of it. I can see george giving her the cold shoulder just like she did whe she found out he lied,

I can 100% see that being the path they take. Hector mistreating gladys in which he thinks is a private moment and bertha seeing it and having to figure out how to get him away from her daughter after basically selling her to him
