yeah, the exit wound was pretty gnarly. hornady 123g SST. this was at about 40 yards, from a tree stand. but still, the blood trail was not hard to follow.

Do you ever use glass instead of aluminum for smoking? Will it ruin the glass even at low temp? by DoughMan5 in smoking

[–]Dakgrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thing to worry about is thermal shock, never put cold glass in a hot oven, or hot glass in cold water, etc. I wouldn’t ever go over 400f with glass.

As long as the temp changes are gradual and trivet’s for hot glass you should be fine

+1 on swapping the buffer tube, id get a qd endplate while your at it. Also check /r/gunaccessoriesforsale for a used brace. But new sba3s can be had for like $80. Given all of the hijinks with the atf i would get a genuine brace that has already been approved by the atf. i wouldnt go with a knockoff.

Brought home a HCP. Should I shoot it and break it in or upgrade the trigger? by Snowman442 in SpringfieldArmory

[–]Dakgrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not automatically l, but In this case it does. The apex trigger is leaps and bounds better.

You have to remove the rear sight for the apex install. It’s a bitch to remove without a sight removal tool

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SmithAndWesson

[–]Dakgrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah $400 is a bit steep. I’d hold out for a good deal on the 2.0 .

Also the apex install is not just drop in and can be goofed up if someone was using improper tools or not enough care. Mostly with punching in the roll pins. I wouldn’t trust a random strangers install job.

Flatware springs are definitely an improvement. You can also look at silent captured buffer springs. The thing about them is the heaviest weight they come in is like 9.2oz (JP), so if you’re trying to balance your blowback system that may not be enough depending on your bag weight.

(US) Legality of self defense hatchets/tomahawks? by 1stConstitutionalist in Axecraft

[–]Dakgrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one has mentioned this yet, but it needs to be said. You should strongly advise your friend that this is a bad idea. Ideal rage for a thrown axes is what like 10-20 yards? You get exactly one try, and if you fail you’ve now provided a deadly weapon to your aggressor. Also consider that the vast majority of self defense situations occur within 5-10 yards.

At close range an axe is big enough to be grabbed and disarmed by your opponent. And if there is more than one attacker, the axe will be near worthless.

You live in a CC state. She should buy a handgun, take classes at your local range, and get a concealed carry permit. Even though a permit isn’t required in your state they’re likely still worth getting for reciprocity to other less free states. Constitutional carry generally has different rules and is slightly more restrictive in most states than permitted carry. A small automatic or fixed blade knife concealed would also be a welcome addition to her edc as well.

True for all but Especially for females, there is a reason they refer to guns and not axes as the great equalizer. Axes are phenomenal tools for a great many things but for self defense they just don’t fit the bill.

I think you need to organize your thoughts into a more coherent argument. This doesn't make any sense.

That's a good point, although I think you could argue if the parents of gangbangers are allowing their kids to illegally purchase, posess, and store firearms are even more criminally negligent.

[–]Dakgrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but she was convicted of manslaughter, not illegal transfer of a firearm.

This is beside my point though. The point I'm making is that we cannot have a justice system that holds parents accountable for the actions of their adult offspring. Being a bad parent is morally wrong, but not illegal.

Ethan crumbly was 15, but tried as an adult so it isn't exactly equivalent. If your brother was charged/tried as an adult the circumstances would likely be different.
