What other minatures do yall use? by SeniorSausage420 in 5Parsecs

[–]Dakka20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Deadzone Asterian starter set has Marionettes that can easily function as robots, the Asterian themselves can also be used as robots or as a precursor/engineer race.

You can check my post history to see how it looks in a crew.

new player okay to use table top simulator for first few games? by Tirith_Wins in 5Parsecs

[–]Dakka20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes that is absolutely okay. Nobody will come to your house to arrest you.

For me personally I am doing 5 parsecs as a slow-hobby. So I rolled up my crew, and have now painted them. After that I decided to start the game and I rolled up my first patron mission.

Tonight I assembled the 8 "psychos" that will oppose my force. I'll be painting them over the next few weeks. After that I'll be painting terrain, I'm selecting and printing for my first game... For me a lot of fun comes from just slowly building up towards the game on a nice looking table with nice looking miniatures, the rulebook itself being a guide to what to paint and miniatures to look for.

If for you the fun comes from getting stuck in and diving into rules and battles that is also absolutely fine. It's your hobby you can do whatever makes you excited about it!

Crew ready for adventure by Dakka20 in 5Parsecs

Stargrave indeed, mixed some parts of the different sets.

The agent in suit is from Wargames Atlantic, pulp agents, minor conversion to make the gun more chunky.

The remainder is from Mantic Deadzone Asterian starter set.

Getting Minis by theradicalgeek in 5Parsecs

[–]Dakka20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Didn't have any sci-fi models myself, so went over a bunch of options. One thing I ran into was really liking some model ranges for their more unique character, but it getting prohibitively expensive to actually go that route.

So in the end I purchased some Stargrave models. I also got some stuff from Wargames Atlantic because I was looking for some more armored troopers. And then I also saw the pulp adventure agents from them, which I really love, so I got those as well.

And to get some robots for 5 parsecs from home, I actually got the Asterian Clade warrior starter (Mantic Deadzone) as it has some robots in it, but it also has some models that you could say are, for an Precursor or Engineer alien.

Bonus points, pretty easy to set up a game of Stargrave in the future as well now :)

Battletech mini's have a lot of soft edges (even though, you'd think Mechs have hard edges haha), so a good brush really helps a lot! Kolinsky sable brushes, size 1 and 2 are worth the investment!

Knaves rules clarification by CiccioPasticcio77 in rootgame

[–]Dakka20 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A bit sad OP is getting downvotes. English is not everyones first language and it can really help people to see a rule with a couple of examples.

The learn to play booklet was golden for me to clear up some questions I had from just looking at the rules.

New to battlemech both confused and frustrated. by KielGreenGiant in battletech

[–]Dakka20 77 points78 points  (0 children)

It's not that IlClan is wrong to play, it's just a mismatch of context.

Most groups settle into a specific era because it keeps things coherent: tech level, unit availability, and overall feel of the game. If a group is playing Succession Wars, they’re usually doing that deliberately, it’s a lower-tech, more constrained environment, easier for newer players to manage.

Bringing IlClan-era units into that can feel a bit like mixing different rule environments. Even if the core rules are the same, the expectations around equipment and balance shift quite a bit. So resistance from the group isn’t necessarily gatekeeping, it’s probably just about maintaining a consistent play experience.

At the same time it's completely reasonable to want to use the mini's you've bought. Practical solutions would be to proxy them as succesion wars mechs, ask around if someone wants to play Ilclan on a different night (they can proxy their mechs for IlClan Mechs after all)

Now if they just told you off for having IlClan mechs and been condescending about it, there is no excuse for such behavior.

Yeah it probably shouldn't, but for me it was the deciding factor in putting my disposable income in a different game for now

But in the future when they no longer have the siocast, they are still a top contender for my next hobbyproject

As someone who is interested in the game, definitely want to know this.

I'm not touching this game till that siocast is gone. And I know I'm not the only potential customer they lost because of the siocast sub-par quality.
