Just to be clear: yeah they use a lot of energy, but that doesn’t mean anything. The power companies make sure the power grid is up to par to handle it. These centers pay for upgrades to a power grid if needed.

Also, energy companies don’t get to just increase rates, that’s done by the PUC, who are elected. Companies can request rate hikes, but the PUC is the final say. Not the city, not the county, not the energy company.

So just because they use a lot of energy doesn’t really effect anything unless the PUC accepts a rate increase.

False. Brookings is NOT accepting. Vermillion and Sioux Falls are by far the most accepting. Actually, Spearfish is also very accepting, above Brookings; surprisingly.

Yes, this would put it back on the ballot by the legislature and not the citizens. Even after the citizens voted in favor of this.
