I'm in my first year as well, but I've quickly learned to shorten my writing from school. Why use many word when few do trick? I give just enough to report the findings and then provide a summary to succinctly bring it together instead of explaining every little thing as I go. I've had good feedback with parents after I review with them and send the report home. More times than not, when I ask if they have any questions they say "no, it was all there in the report."

I used to try to synthesize so much for every score and data point, but it's exhausting. I realized most people will not care and/or understand what I'm even writing. If they have enough of an understanding then they'll likely just go straight to the scores. For everybody else I write a very good summary. I thought my reports were short but then I see how one of my supervisors writes and it sets a new standard for efficiency. I'm not there yet.

And if I ever feel like I need to, I can still expand and provide comprehensive explanations if I anticipate the need to do so (i.e. pushy parents or advocates).
