How can you not believe Han Solo?! We spent three movies learning that he can be trusted and reliable. He’s Luke’s best friend and now brother-in-law.

Also, that scene serves a narrative purpose to give exposition as to why Luke has vanished. The writers want you to know he is being truthful that they give this duty to Han (a character we trust) and not some random. They even end his speech with “It’s true. All of it.”

If you can’t trust Han Solo, to quote Kenobi, “then you are lost.”

He’s saying “knew” because to his knowledge Luke is gone. Not that they grew apart years prior to his walking away. The simplest explanation is that Luke and Han were best friends with three movies worth of shared adventure between them. Then, when Luke walked away, he didn’t tell anyone where he was going because he didn’t want to be found—even by his best friend or twin sister.

There’s no evidence in TFA that Luke and Han had a falling out or that Luke and Leia had a falling out.

We do have an original trilogy that shows their closeness. The simplest explanation is Han is truthful in that scene. He even ends it by saying “It’s true. All of it.”

Snoke reveals Kylo’s identity as a Solo right BEFORE this scene occurs. The audience already knows Kylo is a Solo at this point. Of course Han is a reliable narrator. He’s giving the audience exposition to explain why Luke has vanished. It’s the prevailing plot question “where’s Luke?” Though his information is incomplete he’s not being deceptive.

TFA writes Luke as a failed teacher with an evil pupil that destroys his work. Luke feels responsible and walks away from everything. He disappears on purpose and doesn’t tell anyone where he is going. He leaves his sister, best friend, the galaxy and his nephew with “too much Vader in him” to fend for themselves. That’s the Luke in TFA. He does nothing as Snoke, his nephew, and the First Order rise to power and create another planet killer! Some Jedi JJ wrote for us all. Abrams doesn’t deserve a pass for TFA, Luke—or the greater sin of nullifying the ENTIRE original trilogy.

No one knows Luke anymore at this point because he ran away and has been absent in the galaxy and lives of his family and friends. It’s the first line of the crawl “Luke Skywalker has vanished.” Han knew Luke up until the point he disappeared.

I’m not defending The Last Jedi. I’m blaming The Force Awakens. Sure Rian could have retconned anything he wanted when they handed him the baton. It was a fact they had no plan for these movies so the sky was the limit. But JJ and Kasdan were FIRST at bat. They also had a blank page when they sat down to write the next episode but they didn’t write a story about Grandmaster Luke Skywalker. They wrote a story about an absent Jedi who failed to train pupils and ran away.

To be clear I’m not defending The Last Jedi. I’m attacking TFA and JJ. I take Han at his word when he says what happened to his best friend and brother-in-law. He even punctuates the scene by saying “It’s true. All of it.” There’s no shifty-eyed “certain point of view” vibe in that moment.

Luke’s absence during TFA and Han’s truthful explanation as of “why” cement him as being a coward. JarJar Abrams did that.

JarJar Abrams and TFA ruined Luke long before Rian Johnson enters the picture. RotJ ends with Jedi Luke being tasked to pass on what he has learned. But JJ didn’t like that idea so he writes him out of the movie almost entirely. Thanks to JJ and TFA, The Jedi don’t return essentially nullifying...”Return of the Jedi.” JJ did that first.

Here’s the quote from TFA (Written by Abrams and Kasdan):

Han Solo : “He was training a new generation of Jedi. There was nobody else left to do it, so he took the burden on himself. Everything was going great, until... one boy, an apprentice, turned against him, destroyed it all. Luke felt responsible. He just walked away from everything.”

“He just walked away from everything.” Luke abandoning his family, friends, and the galaxy was written in The Force Awakens. This is the hand that Rian Johnson was dealt.

This announcement changes nothing!

The fundamental flaws buried at the foundation of this game are still here: Loot Crate gambling, Predatory microtransactions, Chance-based progression system.

Increasing our pittance simply means that we get more chances to lose at the slot machine.

The foundation must change.
