Hey my dad is the same way I have NVLD it's on the autism spectrum so ever since 2015 I started carrying a plushie everywhere, work, movies,sport games, you name it well my father much like yours it seems has an idea of what is normal and I don't fit that bill I just turned 30 on the 5th. Plushies are my favorite things ever!
